Mets Release Luke Voit

The New York Mets released first baseman Luke Voit on Tuesday after he had just a .455 OPS in 14 Grapefruit League games this spring. It was announced on Monday that Voit wouldn't make the Mets' Opening Day roster, and now he'll be looking for a new organization to play for in 2024. The 33-year-old right-handed slugger led all of baseball in home runs in the shortened 2020 season with 22. He hit 22 home runs in 135 games in 2022 with the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals but then played in only 22 games in 2023 with the Milwaukee Brewers and hit .221 (15-for-68) with no homers and four RBI. Voit should be able to latch on with another team, but it will likely be on a minor-league contract.

Jose Iglesias, Luke Voit Won't Make Mets Opening Day Roster

The New York Mets have informed Jose Iglesias, Tomas Nido, and Luke Voit that they did not make the team's Opening Day roster. Voit signed a minor-league contract with the Mets in February but failed to latch onto the team's main roster after hitting .097 with a home run and four RBI over 31 spring at-bats. Iglesias had a solid spring, but it wasn't enough to make the team's Opening Day roster. This spring, he hit .278 with a home run and three RBI over 36 at-bats. Both Voit and Iglesias will look to latch onto another team. Neither Iglesias nor Voit will provide much fantasy value even if they sign with another club ahead of 2024 fantasy drafts.

Mets Agree On Minors Deal With Luke Voit

The New York Mets agreed to terms on a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training on Monday with free-agent first baseman/designated hitter Luke Voit. The 33-year-old right-handed slugger will return to the Mets after finishing the 2023 campaign playing for Triple-A Syracuse, where he had a strong 1.058 OPS with 14 home runs in 37 games. The veteran slugger played in 22 big-league games with the Milwaukee Brewers earlier in the year before getting released. He went 15-for-68 (.221) with no home runs and four RBI in his short stint in Milwaukee. Voit will open the 2024 season providing bench depth for the Mets, and there's a good chance he'll return to Syracuse.
