San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez (concussion) is being placed on the seven-day concussion injured list on Monday, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee. Arraez is in the league's concussion protocol after colliding with Houston Astros utility man Mauricio Dubon at first base in Sunday's victory. In a scary scene, the 28-year-old two-time batting champion had to be put on a stretcher and taken to the hospital on Sunday. The good news is that Arraez rejoined the team after Sunday's game and was seen walking in the clubhouse. He said that everything checked out fine at the hospital. Arraez will still be forced to miss a week of action, but there's a chance he could be ready to go when he's eligible to come off the IL. In the meantime, SD could use a combination of Connor Joe, Yuli Gurriel and Gavin Sheets at first base and designated hitter. Sheets is at first and Oscar Gonzalez is the DH for Monday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers.

Arraez was involved in a scary collision at first base after attempting to bunt teammate Fernando Tatis Jr. to second base. The 28-year-old hustled down the line to beat out the throw and collided with Astros' second baseman Mauricio Dubon, who was covering on the play. It appeared that Arraez crashed into Dubon's shoulder and immediately crumpled to the ground. Eventually, his head and neck were stabilized, and he was carted off. Reportedly, the All-Star DH was transported to Houston Methodist Hospital, and his condition is stable. He is responsive and has control of his extremities. Expect an update on his status soon.

Arraez's solo home run came in the eighth inning as the second of back-to-back blasts, following Fernando Tatis Jr.'s second homer of the game. In his 17 games this season, Arraez now has a .282 batting average and .314 wOBA, but his slight downturn in average appears mostly due to bad luck with just a .261 BABIP. His hard-hit rate is on track with last year's mark, and he should be due for some positive regression as he continues to hit near the top of the order for one of the best offenses in baseball.

The veteran infielder had been off to a slow start in 2025 with just two hits in 23 at-bats coming into the game. Arraez is not known for his home-run stroke as he hit just four homers in 637 at-bats during the 2024 season, so fantasy managers shouldn't start him expecting him to carry them in the power department despite his performance on Wednesday. He will hope his big game turns around his early-season fortune moving forward.

" I feel like I got a new thumb," Arraez said. The three-time All-Star still managed to win his third straight batting title after being traded from the Miami Marlins to the Padres in the first half of the season, and he also led the league with 200 hits. However, Arraez's slugging percentage was down considerably and he had only four round-trippers, 46 RBI, nine stolen bases and 83 runs scored in 672 total plate appearances and 150 games played. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter should continue to hit for a very high average to help fantasy managers, but he's a one-category producer and won't do much else.
