The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder Kerry Carpenter (back) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 27) on Wednesday with lumbar-spine inflammation and recalled outfielder Akil Baddoo from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. The back soreness that Carpenter was feeling over the weekend has turned out to be something worse and will almost surely keep him out beyond the 10 days on the IL. It's a big loss for the Tigers and for fantasy managers, as the 26-year-old was hitting .283 with eight home runs, 29 RBI and 21 runs scored. Manager A.J. Hinch said there's no clear timetable for a return for Carpenter without further testing. Baddoo will give the Tigers more outfield depth. Matt Vierling is in center field on Wednesday, while Wenceel Perez is starting in right field for the Tigers in Game 1 of their doubleheader versus the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter hit his eighth home run of the season Saturday afternoon, providing all the runs needed to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1. Carpenter is having an excellent season thus far, hitting .285 with eight home runs, 29 RBI and 20 runs scored in 144 at-bats. Five home runs have come in the last 15 games, where Carpenter has hit a robust .340. Carpenter should continue to see regular playing time in right field for the Tigers, and as long as he keeps hitting, he should be batting cleanup.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter smashed a two-run shot off Toronto starter Jose Berrios in the first inning of the Tigers' 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays on Saturday. Carpenter would also add on a single and go two-for-three on the day, but his first inning blast was all the Tigers needed to get past the Blue Jays. Carpenter increased his team-leading OPS to .916 and is second on the team in HR. The lefty has mainly been used as a platoon matchup against righties and fantasy managers should take that into account when inserting him into their lineups. Expect Carpenter to sit on Sunday vs Toronto lefty Yusei Kikuchi, but he'll be back in the lineup the next two days against Pittsburgh against standout rookies Jared Jones and Paul Skenes.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter went 2-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, and a strikeout in Saturday's 8-2 win over the Houston Astros. Carpenter belted a two-run shot off Cristian Javier in the bottom of the third inning for his first homer of the game. He later took Hunter Brown deep in the bottom of the fourth inning for his second long ball of the night. Entering Saturday's game, Carpenter had gone 18 games without a home run. The 26-year-old is slashing .275/.333/.523 with five home runs, 18 RBI, and 12 runs over 37 games in 2024. Carpenter will look to build off Saturday's massive performance in the season finale against the Astros on Sunday and should be started in most league formats.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and RBI in Tuesday's victory over the Texas Rangers. Carpenter had a strong game, but was pulled in the bottom of the eighth inning with a lefty on the mound. Carpenter has had a good season with a .302 batting average to go along with two homers and five RBI, but has gotten the majority of his playing time with right-handed pitchers on the mound. Carpenter has always showed plenty of power, but it hurts that the Tigers won't give him a chance against lefties. As long as managers can deal with him sitting against lefties, he should be rostered in deeper leagues with daily lineups.
