New York Mets outfielder Jose Siri (leg) still hasn't gotten to 100 percent in his running progression, according to The Athletic's Tim Britton. Manager Carlos Mendoza said that Siri wasn't all that close to returning last week. Siri continues to rehab from a fractured left tibia that he suffered on April 12. Although he's doing some running and was able to take batting practice last week, the 29-year-old's return from the injured list remains up in the air. When he does return to the big-league roster, he'll be in a part-time role in center field, at best, with Tyrone Taylor. The Dominican outfielder is more of a glove-first outfielder and had gone just 1-for-20 with an RBI and two stolen bases in his first 10 games for the Mets this year before getting injured.

New York Mets outfielder Jose Siri (leg) will face left-hander Sean Manaea (oblique) during a live batting practice session on Thursday, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. Siri is recovering from a fractured left tibia that has kept him out since April 12. He has more boxes to check off before being cleared for a minor-league rehab assignment, though, as he's currently limited to running in a straight line. It's good news that the 29-year-old is set to face live pitching, but his last hurdle will probably be to run the bases at full speed. Barring a setback with his leg, Siri could return to the Mets' big-league roster around the middle of June. Before his injury, Siri had gone only just 1-for-20 with an RBI, five runs and two stolen bases while losing playing time in center field to Tyrone Taylor. Siri won't be guaranteed anything more than a bench role in New York upon his return.

Tim Britton of The Athletic reports that New York Mets outfielder Jose Siri (leg) is progressing more quickly than expected from the broken bone he suffered earlier this season. Siri exited a game in early April when he fouled a ball off his shin. Initial x-rays came back negative, but after further testing, it was revealed he had fractured his tibia. The 29-year-old's early diagnosis had him back in eight to ten weeks from the time of the injury, but it looks like he has a chance to supersede that timetable. While there's no set date for him to begin a rehab assignment, it's undoubtedly excellent news. Teammate Tyrone Taylor has underwhelmed at the dish in his stead with a .234 batting average, but his xBA indicates he's underperforming (.266). Siri was able to do some light jogging in his return to the field.
