Jonathan Cannon To Be Evaluated For Lower Back After Monday's Loss

Chicago White Sox manager Will Venable said Monday that starting pitcher Jonathan Cannon (back) will be evaluated in the coming days for his lower back. Cannon struggled in Monday's 13-1 loss to the Tigers. The 24-year-old managed just three innings, allowing five runs on four hits (including three home runs) and three walks with five strikeouts. Cannon said after the game about his back, "Bothered me a little bit out there, but I chose to go out there and try to compete". Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for news later in the week to get a better idea as to when Cannon may make his next appearance. He has gotten varying results this season and is now 2-7 with a 4.66 ERA, a 1.40 ERA, and a 7.21 K/9 rate in 12 appearances (10 starts) and 63 2/3 IP.

Jonathan Cannon to Start on Tuesday

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon (back) will make his next start on Tuesday against the hosting New York Mets at Citi Field, according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Kyle Williams. Cannon was scratched from his last scheduled start on Saturday against the Texas Rangers due to tightness in his lower back, but he's obviously feeling better now and will give it a go in a tough matchup against the Mets on the road this week. Even though the 24-year-old has pitched well with three quality starts in four outings in the month of May, Cannon will be a pretty risky fantasy streamer on Tuesday. Overall, the former third-rounder in 2022 out of Georgia has gone 2-5 with a 3.76 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with only 42 strikeouts and 17 walks in 55 innings over 10 outings (eight starts). He'll be going up against a Mets team that ranks ninth in MLB with a .732 OPS.

Jonathan Cannon Scratched With Back Tightness, Bryse Wilson to Start

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon (back) has been scratched from his start on Saturday against the Texas Rangers due to lower-back tightness and is listed as day-to-day, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. With Cannon hurting, right-hander Bryse Wilson will make the start at Rate Field. It sounds like Cannon might be able to avoid a trip to the injured list, but it's unclear when he'll be able to take the mound again. The 24-year-old has only 42 strikeouts in 55 innings over his 10 outings (eight starts) this year, but he's been decent with a 3.76 ERA (4.06 FIP) and 1.31 WHIP in his second year in the big leagues. The Rangers are an excellent matchup with a .651 OPS (fourth-worst in baseball), but Wilson will still be a volatile and risky fantasy streamer on Saturday. In his four starts in 2025, he has allowed 13 earned runs on 27 hits (four homers) with eight walks and 10 K's in 17 2/3 frames.
