Cincinnati Reds third baseman Jeimer Candelario (toe) is unlikely to return this season, according to MLB.com. Manager David Bell stated, "It's looking more and more like he's not going to be back this year either. He's still having quite a bit of pain." The 30-year-old has been sidelined since mid-August after being hit by a pitch. Before the injury, the veteran posted a .225/.279/.429 line with 20 home runs and four stolen bases. Fantasy managers should expect Ty France to cover first base and Noelvi Marte and Santiago Espinal to cover the hot corner for the remainder of the summer. This afternoon, Espinal covered third base while Marte served as the designated hitter.

With time running out in the 2024 regular season and the Reds out of playoff contention, it seems unlikely that Candelario will be able to return for fantasy managers before the end of September. His injury late in the season has opened up playing time for newcomer Ty France and Santiago Espinal in Cincy. The 30-year-old switch-hitter did reach the 20-homer mark for just the second time in his career in his first year with the Reds, but he's hit just .225 with a weak .279 on-base percentage and below-average .707 OPS.

With Candelario out, it's led to more playing time for Noelvi Marte at the hot corner, while newcomers Dominic Smith and Ty France have formed a platoon across the diamond at first base.
