Former big-league second baseman Jean Segura officially announced his retirement from professional baseball on Wednesday, according to The Athletic's Matt Gelb. Segura was a two-time All-Star and slashed .281/.327/.401 with a .729 OPS, 110 home runs, 513 RBI and 211 stolen bases over his 12-year career while playing for the Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Angels. The 35-year-old spent four years each in Milwaukee and Philadelphia and last played in 2023 with Miami, when he batted .219/.277/.279 with three homers, 21 RBI and six steals in only 85 games played. Segura led the National League with 203 hits in 2016 with the Diamondbacks. His lone postseason appearance came in 2022 with the Phillies.

The Baltimore Orioles have signed fre-agent infielder Jean Segura to a minor-league deal on Friday. This is a nice low-risk for the O's to see if the 34-year-old has anything left in the tank. Segura struggled with a .219/.277/.279 slash line with three home runs and 21 RBI with the Miami Marlins last season. Segura hasn't played at all this season, but the two-time All-Star does have a good track record. This looks to be nothing more than a depth move for the O's as they head towards the postseason.
