According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Texas Rangers have signed free agent relief pitcher Hoby Milner to a one-year contract. Milner has spent the past four season working in the Milwaukee bullpen. Across 64 2/3 innings last summer, the southpaw posted a 4.73 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP. However, under the hood he generated a strong 3.24 xERA which suggests he should be in store for some positive regression in 2025. He also allowed hard contract at a low 36.2% rate and barrels at stellar 2.7% rate. In addition, he showed great command with a 5.2% walk rate. Last season he was typically deployed in the seven and eighth innings as a set-up man. Fantasy managers should monitor who else the Rangers sign as Milner could contend for save opportunities or be an elite contributor in leagues that score holds.
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Hoby Milner (shoulder) said he's experienced similar left-shoulder impingements at least a half-dozen times before, including earlier this year, and that they usually clear up with a modest rest period. Milner expects to begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Friday with High-A Wisconsin, and if that goes well, he would pitch again the following Sunday. The 33-year-old southpaw reliever could rejoin Milwaukee's bullpen early next week if he doesn't suffer any setbacks in two rehab appearances this weekend. He has been away from the team since the middle of the month due to his shoulder ailment. The former seventh-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2012 out of Texas has a bloated 4.92 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with a save and 52 K's in 53 innings over 51 outings (one start) in his fourth year with the Brew Crew.
Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Hoby Milner will serve as the opener for Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers. The veteran southpaw will make his first start after 269 career relief appearances dating back to his MLB debut in 2017. The expectation is that Milner will only pitch the first inning or two. After that, Bryse Wilson figures to pitch a bulk of the innings on Tuesday. Milner won't be worth using as a streaming option but him getting his first start is pretty neat.
