Erick Fedde Fires First Career Shutout

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Erick Fedde allowed six hits and no runs over nine innings in Friday's 10-0 win over the Washington Nationals. The 32-year-old struck out eight batters and walked none in the first complete game and shutout of his MLB career. It was easily the best start of the season for him and marked the first time he'd punched out more than four batters. Fedde hammered in 68 of 109 pitches for strikes and had previously not gone longer than six innings in any outing. The Las Vegas native scattered six hits (one double) and allowed no runs for the second time in 2025. He'll have a much tougher task in his next start, which projects to come on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies early next week. Despite the dominant showing against Washington, he'll be difficult to trust moving forward.

Erick Fedde Takes No-Decision Despite Tossing Six Hitless Innings

Offense was hard to come by on both sides in Wednesday's series finale at PNC Park between the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates in a game the Bucs ended up winning 2-1 in 13 innings. Cardinals right-hander Erick Fedde was dialed in but picked up a no-decision, tossing six hitless and scoreless innings while walking four and striking out two. The strong outing lowered the 32-year-old veteran's season ERA to 4.20, and he's now picked up quality starts in two of his first three outings on the year. It was a nice bounce-back performance for him after he was pummeled for six earned runs on five hits (two homers) for his first loss over three innings in his last outing on April 4 against the Boston Red Sox. However, Fedde has only fanned five in 15 innings pitched and will be a shaky fantasy option in his next scheduled outing next week against the visiting Houston Astros.

Erick Fedde Drawing Trade Interest

St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde is drawing interest on the trade market. According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Dispatch, several teams believe the Cardinals are actively trying to find a trade partner for the 31-year-old. Throughout the offseason, the Cardinals have attempted to shed payroll. They decided to let Paul Goldschmidt test the open market and have had several discussions with teams about moving third baseman Nolan Arenado. Fedde will likely be moved sometime this season as he is set to enter free agency after the 2025 campaign. Last season, the right-hander posted a 3.30 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP across 177 1/3 innings. He tallied 154 punchouts and allowed walks at a strong 7.2 percent rate. He is currently penciled to be the No. 2 option in the St. Louis starting rotation behind Sonny Gray.
