Toronto Blue Jays outfielderDavis Schneiderhad a two-run home run on Memorial Day to put the game out of reach for the White Sox as Toronto won 5-1. AfterGavin Sheetshit a solo shot in the eighth inning to cut the Blue Jays lead to two, Schneider answered in the top of the ninth with his sixth blast to left field, scoringGeorge Springer and sealed the deal for Chicago. After mainly going undrafted in fantasy leagues this spring, Schneider looks to hold value sitting at the top of an under-performing but always dangerous Blue Jays lineup. Hopefully, Monday's home run will be a sign of things to come. The 25-year-old should be added to watchlists everywhere. Schneider is currently rostered in only 21% of Yahoo leagues and less than six percent of ESPN leagues.
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Davis Schneider is starting at the keystone and hitting in the leadoff spot on Saturday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zach Eflin. This will be the fourth time in the last seven games that Schneider has hit in the top spot for the Jays, with normal leadoff hitter George Springer down in the six-hole. Between second base and a corner-outfield spot, Schneider has become a lineup regular for Toronto of late and is hitting .257 (9-for-35) with two homers, five RBI and two stolen bases in 11 games so far in May. Schneider has never faced Eflin in his career and is hitting .260/.370/.490 on the season with an .860 OPS, five long balls, 17 RBI and two steals in 100 at-bats. If Springer continues to struggle offensively, it looks like Schneider will benefit by hitting atop Toronto's batting order.
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Davis Schneider went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in a 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. Schneider provided most of the offense for the Blue Jays with a two-run shot off left-hander Tyler Alexander in the eighth inning. Schneider is hitting .260 with five homers, 17 runs, 17 RBI, and two steals across 100 at-bats this season. He has two homers and five RBI over his last seven games as he looks to stay hot for the Jays moving forward.
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Davis Schneider, utility bat Daniel Vogelbach, and infielder Ernie Clement have all made the opening day roster. Schneider should see a decent amount of playing time at second base, either as a platoon with Cavan Biggio or as the outright second baseman with Biggio shifting around the diamond. Vogelbach will likely be a bench bat and could fill in at DH when Justin Turner is playing in the field or taking a day off. Clement will be a bench infielder for the club. Schneider has the most appeal in fantasy and could be worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Davis Schneider did some outfield work over the winter and will be focusing on second base and left field in spring training this year. Cavan Biggio, Santiago Espinal and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will be options at both second and third base for Toronto in 2024, which means Schneider may have to move to left field in order to stay in the lineup consistently. The 25-year-old's bat certainly played up in his first 35 big-league games in 2023, as he hit .276/.404/.603 with a 1.008 OPS, eight home runs and 20 RBI in 141 plate appearances. However, he finished just 2-for-35 to end the year and struck out 30 percent of the time. Schneider showed some interesting skills with the stick in Toronto last year, but playing time could be an issue in 2024.
