Blue Jays Could Call Up Jake Bloss In September

The Toronto Blue Jays could choose to call up right-handed pitching prospect Jake Bloss when rosters expand in September and employ a six-man starting rotation for the final month of the season. Bloss, who was acquired from the Houston Astros in the Yusei Kikuchi deal at the end of July, has made three starts for Triple-A Buffalo and has thrown 9 2/3 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and five walks. Toronto hasn't been in a rush to call him up with rosters expanding, but they also would like to give their regular starts normal rest with a playoff spot not up for grabs. Per MLB Pipeline, the 23-year-old Bloss is Toronto's No. 3 prospect. Other candidates for a promotion when rosters expand this weekend include outfielders Jonatan Clase, Nathan Lukes and Alan Roden. Bloss began the year at High-A Asheville in the Astros' system. He could be in line for a regular rotation role in 2025 in Toronto.

Blue Jays Acquire Jake Bloss From Astros

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired right-handed pitching prospect Jake Bloss from the Houston Astros on Monday as part of the deal that sent left-hander Yusei Kikuchi to the Astros, according to sources. Bloss was scratched from his scheduled start on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and now we know why. The 23-year-old was Houston's No. 9 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he could immediately join Toronto's rotation to close out the second half of his rookie campaign. The former third-rounder's fantasy stock is down after looking a bit overmatched so far in his first three big-league starts, as he's posted a 6.94 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with 11 strikeouts and three walks in 11 2/3 innings. Bloss doesn't have an overpowering arsenal and relies mostly on command, so fantasy managers can continue to ignore him for now in mixed leagues, especially with the move to hitter-friendly Rogers Centre.

Jake Bloss Scratched, Tayler Scott Making The Start For Houston

Houston Astros rookie right-hander Jake Bloss has been scratched from his scheduled start on Monday against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates due to undisclosed reasons, according to a source. Instead, right-hander Tayler Scott will get the nod against the Bucs. Bloss, the club's No. 9 prospect per MLB Pipeline, came off the injured list on July 11 with right-shoulder inflammation, so it's possible he's had a setback with his arm. The 23-year-old also gave up five runs on six hits (four homers) in his last start against the Oakland Athletics on July 23, so he wasn't going to be a very popular streaming candidate for fantasy managers against Pittsburgh. Scott, 32, will be making his first start of the year and just the fifth of his career after debuting way back in 2019. He's been great in 49 2/3 relief innings for Houston this year with a 1.45 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 50 K's and 23 walks, but he's only going to go an inning or two in what will be a bullpen game for Houston.
