Oakland Athletics infielder Darell Hernaiz has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. Hernaiz was optioned towards the end of August after struggling with a .193 batting average across 44 games with the A's. The 23-year-old was hitting better in the minors, so the A's are ready to give him another look. Hernaiz will cover third base and bat ninth versus right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on Tuesday. Fantasy managers can ignore Hernaiz, but it's nice to see the A's giving their young hitters more chances.
Oakland Athletics infielder Darell Hernaiz (ankle) has been activated from the 60-day injured list on Friday. The 22-year-old is finally set to return after being sidelined since early May due to a left ankle sprain. It appears Hernaiz is back and he'll likely be in the lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The assumption is that Hernaiz will take the roster spot of Brett Harris who has been optioned back to Triple-A.
Oakland Athletics rookie shortstop Darell Hernaiz (ankle) advanced in his rehab process from a strength and fitness program to a hitting progression in the week of June 17. However, there is no timetable for when he might be ready to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. Hernaiz landed on the injured list with a left-ankle sprain and most likely won't be back before the All-Star break in mid-July despite already shedding his walking boot in the first half of June. There's no reason to rush the 22-year-old, who struggled in his first taste of major-league pitching this year before getting hurt. In 29 games played, Hernaiz went 12-for-66 (.182) with no home runs, six RBI, one steal, six walks and 16 strikeouts in 75 plate appearances. He should get another shot in the big leagues once he's healed up, but it remains to be seen if he'll see consistent playing time.
