Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Chad Green (shoulder) is rehabbing for three to seven more days, at which point the team is hopeful that he can resume throwing. Green is recovering from a teres major strain in his right shoulder after landing on the injured list. The 32-year-old veteran hurler is probably at least several weeks away from being able to return to Toronto's bullpen. Green opened the 2024 season with increased fantasy importance because of injuries to both Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson. He took advantage of the short-term opportunity for save chances in Toronto, recording two saves with a 2.35 ERA and 1.04 WHIP while walking two and striking out seven in 7 2/3 frames. When Green returns from the IL, he'll return to a late-inning setup role in front of Romano.
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Chad Green (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right teres major strain. Green has been sidelined since Monday due to shoulder soreness and will miss at least the next few weeks with the move to the IL. The 32-year-old owned a 2.35 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 7:2 K: BB across 7 2/3 innings in 2024. Nate Pearson was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move to replace Green in the bullpen. Pearson posted a 1.11 WHIP and a 9:3 K: BB across 6 1/3 innings in 2024. With Jordan Romano (elbow) returning from injury and Yimi Garcia as the team's top setup man, Pearson is buried in Toronto's bullpen and mainly a fantasy option in deep leagues that reward holds.
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Chad Green (shoulder) was unavailable during Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the division-rival New York Yankees due to shoulder soreness he felt following Monday's appearance against the Yankees. Manager John Schneider hopes Green is good to go by Friday for the start of a three-game weekend set on the road against the San Diego Padres. The 32-year-old right-hander picked up two saves and helped bridge the gap until Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson were able to rejoin Toronto's bullpen on Tuesday, and he has a strong 2.35 ERA and 1.04 WHIP while striking out seven batters and walking two over 7 2/3 innings during the 2024 regular season. With that said, Green doesn't hold a whole lot of fantasy appeal at the moment outside of leagues that weigh holds.
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Chad Green picked up his second save of the season on Tuesday versus the Seattle Mariners. The veteran tossed 1 1/3 innings and allowed a walk with one strikeout. Green has now appeared in five games and allowed two runs, but has been perfect in two save opportunities. It's encouraging to see Green in a high leverage role after dealing with injuries the past couple of seasons, but his time as a closer is nearing its end with closer Jordan Romano (elbow) and eighth inning arm Erik Swanson (forearm) both on their rehab assignments and nearing their returns. Regardless, Green can still have value in leagues that count holds.
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Chad Green secured Friday's save in the 3-0 win over the division-rival New York Yankees, yielding two hits in a scoreless ninth inning. Friday was technically Toronto's first save situation of the season, but Green notched a win in Tuesday's victory over the Houston Astros after working the ninth frame. His usage suggests he's first in line for save situations until the Jays get star closer Jordan Romano (elbow) and setup man Erik Swanson (forearm) back from the injured list, making Green worth a fantasy add as a short-term source of saves for the time being. The 32-year-old right-hander missed most of 2023 in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but he's given up only one run with one strikeout over 3 1/3 frames to begin the year. He's not worth a sizable chunk of fantasy managers' FAABs with Romano's return appearing not far off, though.
