Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola (ankle) is headed to the 15-day injured list on Friday with a sprained right ankle that he suffered before his last start against the Cleveland Guardians. Mike Abel will make his big-league debut in place of Nola on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but it will just be a spot start. After that, right-handed veteran Taijuan Walker will rejoin Philly's rotation when the team heads to Colorado to face the Rockies. It helps explain Nola's last two rough outings, when he allowed a combined 13 earned runs on 18 hits (five homers) while walking three and striking out seven in 8 2/3 innings against Cleveland and St. Louis. It's currently unclear if he'll be able to return from the IL on May 30 when he's eligible. It's been a tough year so far for the former All-Star, as he's gone 1-7 with a 6.16 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 52 K's and 16 walks in 49 2/3 innings over nine starts. Don't drop him just yet.

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola was lit up in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader in what ended as a 14-7 loss to the Cardinals. He allowed nine runs on nine hits and one walk in 3 2/3 innings. This loss dropped his record to 1-7, continuing an extremely disappointing start to 2025 for the right-hander. This start rose his already poor 4.89 ERA up to 6.16. He'll look to turn things around in his next start, currently set to be against the Rockies at Coors Field.

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola allowed four hits and no runs over six innings pitched in his team's 7-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He walked one and struck out eight while picking up his first win of the season (1-5). Nola let up six hard-hit balls on Saturday, but he was able to keep the D-Backs off balance, allowing just one extra-base hit (double). The veteran right-hander has rebounded nicely over his last two starts after affording the Giants and Mets ten combined runs over the two starts prior. During the previous 13 innings, he's surrendered just seven hits and one earned run with a 14:2 K:BB ratio and back-to-back quality starts. He'll attempt to keep the good times rolling in his next appearance, which should come on the road against the Cleveland Guardians next weekend.
