Ivan Herrera Goes Yard

St. Louis Cardinals backup catcher Ivan Herrera went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two RBI in Thursday's victory against the Miami Marlins. Herrera is now 4-for-12 on the season with four RBI. The 23-year-old has been off to a nice start to the season, but is nothing more than a backup to All-Star catcher Willson Contreras. Unless Contreras were to get hurt, Herrera can remain on the waiver wire.

Josh Bell Hits First Homer

Miami Marlins first baseman Josh Bell went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in Thursday's loss versus the St. Louis Cardinals. Bell hit his first blast off Lance Lynn in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it wouldn't be enough to give the Marlins their first victory of the season. The switch-hitter has always shown power in his bat and has been slotted into the No. 2 in the lineup thus far. Bell will not make a huge dent with a career .259 batting average and his power could useful for managers looking for infield or first base help in deeper formats. The Marlins have Friday off, but Bell will look to build off his performance against Steven Matz and the Cardinals on Saturday.

Ryan Weathers Picks Up No-Decision

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Ryan Weathers tossed five innings in a no-decision against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. The lefty tossed five innings and allowed three hits, three runs, three walks and struck out six. The six strikeouts are nice and he now has 11 on the season in nine innings, but the walks are a red flag with five to date. Weather is a former prized pitching prospect who came over from the San Diego Padres this offseason and will be heavily counted out with the Marlins dealing with a massive number of injuries in their pitching department. If Weather can limit the walks, he can be useful in deeper leagues. He will look to limit baserunners in his next start against the New York Yankees on Wednesday.

Nelson Velazquez Blasts Second Homer

Kansas City Royals outfielder Nelson Velazquez had a strong night in Thursday's blowout victory against the Chicago White Sox. The outfielder went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBI on the evening. Velazquez was a popular sleeper entering this season with his ability to go yard and he now has two round trippers on the season. In addition to the outfield, Velazquez also has slotted into the designated hitter spot. Although he has big bat ability with his power, he does strikeout a lot. As long as managers are willing to take the good with the bad, he is a fine option in deeper leagues.

Michael Soroka Posts Quality Start

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Michael Soroka pitched well, but suffered a loss versus the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. The right-hander bounced back from a rough first start of the season and tossed a quality start. In six innings, Soroka allowed six hits, two runs, no walks and struck out two. Soroka has been sidelined with a bevy of injuries the past few seasons, but does own a career 3.40 ERA. He won't have many opportunities to pick up victories on a bad White Sox team and doesn't offer much in terms of strikeouts which lowers his value. His best value is as a streamer in favorable matchups for now. Next up for Soroka will be a division battle against the Cleveland Guardians.
