Edwin Diaz Picks Up First Save Friday

New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz earned his first save of the season on Friday in a 3-2 win over the Reds. Diaz didn't allow a hit, walked one, and struck out one. The 2x All-Star has had his usual elite stuff, making four appearances thus far while allowing just one hit and no earned runs over four innings pitched, with one walk and six strikeouts. With the Mets sitting at 2-5 to start the year, however, the issue for fantasy managers could be the lack of save opportunities if New York doesn't turn things around. Assuming they do, Diaz remains a top-option at closer and will contribute low ERA and WHIP along with a bunch of strikeouts regardless of the Mets' struggles.

Adolis Garcia Hits Fourth Home Run On Friday

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia hit his fourth home run of the season on Friday in a 10-2 pounding of the Houston Astros. It was a three-run blast off of Astros starter Hunter Brown, who lasted just three innings. Garcia finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. The 31-year-old is now batting .276 on the young season, with 10 RBI, six runs scored, and a stolen base through seven games. The 2x All-Star is shaping up to have another productive season at the plate after belting 39 long balls with 107 RBI in 2023. Garcia boasted a 16.1% Barrel% last season, and it's an incredible 25.0% to begin 2024.

Logan O'Hoppe Blasts A Grand Slam Friday

Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe hit his first home run of the year on Friday, a game-tying grand slam in the sixth inning of an eventual 8-6 loss to the Red Sox. O'Hoppe finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. The 24-year-old is off to a hot start, going 9-for-20 (.450) with a double, a triple, a home run, six RBI, four runs scored, and a 3:4 BB:K. This is just what fantasy managers were hoping for when they drafted him for upside at a traditionally offensively-challenged position. Earlier this year, manager Ron Washington stated he wanted to get O'Hoppe 125-135 starts at catcher, but he could get even more if some days at DH were sprinkled in too. The youngster hit 14 home runs last season in just 51 games with a 15.6% Barrel%, so a big year could certainly be in store for him.

Triston Casas Hits First Home Run Of 2024

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas hit his first home run of the season on Friday in an 8-6 win over the Angels. It came right after a Tyler O'Neill home run in the second inning, part of a three-homer inning for the Sox. Casas finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI, one run scored, and a walk. The 24-year-old is batting .233 (7-for-30) with three RBI, four runs scored, and a 5:9 BB:K over eight games thus far. The powerful lefty hit .263 last season and belted 24 home runs with a 13.1% Barrel%, so expect more to come on the power front.

Rafael Devers Walks Twice, Hit By Pitch Friday

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers went 0-for-2 with two walks and was hit by a pitch in Friday's 8-6 win over the Angels. Devers was hit in the knuckles by a pitch from Jose Suarez in the sixth inning but was able to stay in the game. Afterward, the 2x All-Star had his hand in a wrap, although the slugger said he'd be fine. Hopefully he will be as it looked like fellow infielder Trevor Story suffered a painful injury Friday that will cause him to miss some time. Devers is 5-for-25 (.200) to start 2024, with a pair of doubles, a home run, two RBI, three runs scored, and a 4:4 BB:K. The Red Sox are 6-2 despite the 27-year-old off to a bit of a slow start, but they'll need him to get rolling soon as Jarren Duran and Tyler O'Neill will cool off eventually.
