Logan Allen Blanks Seattle For Second Win

Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Logan Allen blanked the Seattle Mariners in Wednesday's 8-0 blowout victory, spinning 6 2/3 scoreless innings on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts and tallying a win. Allen is now 2-0 on the infant season, scattering three singles and a double in what was one of the most impressive starts of his young career. The 25-year-old left-hander is battling with veteran Carlos Carrasco to maintain a spot in Cleveland's rotation after Gavin Williams (elbow) returns from right elbow inflammation, but Allen is starting to pull away in the competition via a 2.31 ERA and 1.11 WHIP while fanning nine covering his first 11 2/3 frames of the year. He'll have a great chance to build on his early-2024 success in his next scheduled start next Tuesday, when the Guardians host the division-rival Chicago White Sox.

Nick Pivetta Shuts Down Oakland Again

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nick Pivetta helped his team complete a series sweep in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Oakland Athletics, hurling five scoreless innings on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts. After being saddled with a tough-luck loss in last Friday's 1-0 defeat to the Seattle Mariners, Pivetta contributed to the second shutout victory of Boston's season. On top of that, the 31-year-old Canadian right-hander is now undefeated with a shiny 0.71 ERA and 44 strikeouts in six career appearances against Oakland. Pivetta will take a 0.82 ERA and 0.82 WHIP with 13 punchouts over 11 frames in 2024 into a difficult matchup versus the division-rival Baltimore Orioles and ace Corbin Burnes next Wednesday. Over 23 innings against the O's since 2022, Pivetta owns a 2.35 ERA and 29 strikeouts.

Cristian Javier Keeps Scoreless Streak Alive

Houston Astros starting pitcher Cristian Javier was superb during Wednesday's 8-0 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays, tossing five innings of one-hit ball with three strikeouts to record his first win of the season. Javier walked five in this one, but the free passes didn't come back to haunt him in this scoreless outing. With the effort, the 27-year-old Dominican right-hander now boasts 11 shutout frames with nine punchouts through his initial two appearances of 2024. Javier gets the Kansas City Royals and ace left-hander Cole Ragans next Tuesday for the start of a three-game series, and a pitching duel could be in store for that one. Despite being winless with a 7.20 ERA in two appearances against the Royals since 2022, Javier will still be a strong fantasy play on the road.

Adbert Alzolay Bounces Back With Win

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Adbert Alzolay picked up the win during Wednesday's 9-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies, throwing a scoreless ninth inning on one hit with two strikeouts to close out the victory. Although Alzolay was granted a win in the box score following the game on a technicality, fantasy managers are just glad he rebounded from blowing an Opening Day save in the walk-off loss to the Texas Rangers last Thursday. There were murmurs during spring training that manager Craig Counsell would let Chicago's bullpen hierarchy play out organically rather than assign roles himself, but setup man Hector Neris has struggled to a 6.75 ERA and 2.25 WHIP across his first three appearances. Alzolay, on the other hand, has given up just one run with four punchouts over his first three innings and is quite clearly first in line for the Cubs' save chances going forward.

Aaron Judge Smashes First 2024 Homer

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge finally got going in Wednesday's wild 6-5 extra-inning win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, going 3-for-4 with a two-run home run during the fourth inning. Judge's jack gave the Yankees a temporary 2-1 lead, and he later doubled to deep right center to bring Gleyber Torres around for an insurance score in the 10th frame. Judge hit .125 across his opening 24 at-bats entering the game, so fantasy managers hope this performance gets the former American League MVP on track following his sluggish spring. New York next gets a three-game weekend series versus the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays that starts with Friday's home opener. In 2023, Judge crushed Toronto by batting .310 with six home runs and 12 RBI in 12 games against them.
