Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) is set to throw four innings in a minor-league rehab game on Friday with Triple-A Jacksonville. The Marlins got bad news on Thursday that young righty Eury Perez (elbow) will need Tommy John surgery and miss all of 2024. The good news is the Fish have rotation reinforcements coming in Cabrera and left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder). Cabrera threw three scoreless innings on 43 pitches in his first rehab start with Jacksonville last Sunday, so he's slightly ahead of Garrett, who will be making his first rehab start this Sunday. If the 25-year-old Cabrera looks good in his second rehab start on Friday, the Marlins could decide to activate him from the 15-day injured to make his 2024 big-league debut next week.

Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) will make a minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday. Garrett is ready to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment after throwing a three-inning simulated game earlier this week. The 26-year-old southpaw will probably need another rehab start in the minors before the Fish consider activating him from the injured list to join the major-league starting rotation. With both Sandy Alcantara (elbow) and Eury Perez (elbow) now out for the year, the Marlins need all the help they can get in their rotation now. Garrett is recovering from a left-shoulder impingement in spring training and is worth a waiver-wire pickup in deep-mixed leagues when he's healthy.

Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis (quadriceps) said he received a platelet-rich plasma injection to help his right quadriceps muscle heal. Lewis suffered a serious quad strain on Opening Day last Thursday and will be shut down from baseball activities for at least a month. Hopefully, his PRP injection will speed up the healing process in his leg, but the 24-year-old is still going to be out for a while and needs to be stashed in an injured list spot in all fantasy leagues. Since Lewis was injured, Willi Castro has been serving as the team's regular third baseman and has gone just 2-for-16 (.125) with two runs scored, three walks and seven strikeouts in his first 20 plate appearances of the year in five contests.

Chicago White Sox outfielder Robbie Grossman could join the major-league roster within the next week, according to general manager Chris Getz. The White Sox don't expect Eloy Jimenez (groin) to land on the injured list, but he is missing his fourth straight game on Thursday, while Grossman is 3-for-7 with two home runs and five RBI in his first two games down on the farm at Triple-A Charlotte. The 34-year-old veteran switch-hitter has the ability to play multiple outfield positions, which will give the White Sox more versatility. Grossman doesn't provide much fantasy upside in deeper leagues, though, if he's back in the big leagues. He's hit over 20 homers just once in his 11 big-league seasons and slashed .238/.340/.394 with 10 homer and 49 RBI in 115 games in 2023 for the Texas Rangers.

Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez (groin) remains out of the team's starting lineup on Thursday against the Kansas City Royals. This will be the fourth straight missed game for Jimenez, who tweaked his groin on Sunday. The White Sox have been optimistic that the 27-year-old will avoid a stint on the injured list, but if he cannot return this weekend, the team's tone could change. The left-handed-hitting Gavin Sheets will serve as the designated hitter again and bat cleanup on Thursday against Royals right-hander Seth Lugo. Sheets has only nine plate appearances on the year in four games and has a hit, an RBI and three strikeouts for the Pale Hose. He has never faced Lugo in his career.
