Geraldo Perdomo Injured On Wednesday

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) left Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the New York Yankees in the 10th inning and was walking with a slight limp. He started hobbling halfway to second base and stood on the bag hunched over for a while before leaving the game. The Arizona Republic's Theo Mackie suggests it could have been Perdomo's knee, which he had a minor issue with during spring training. Before leaving, Perdomo went 0-for-4 with an RBI and two strikeouts in the 6-5 loss. If the 24-year-old is forced to miss any time because of the injury, expect Blaze Alexander to see most of the playing time at shortstop for Arizona. Until we know more on Perdomo's injury, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day. The D-backs are off on Thursday before heading to Atlanta to face the Braves on Friday.UPDATE: Perdomo is officially listed as day-to-day with right-knee discomfort.

Jason Heyward Lands On Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Jason Heyward (back) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with lower-back tightness and recalled outfielder Taylor Trammell from the minors in a corresponding move. Heyward had missed the last two games with the injury and will now miss at least another 10 days. It's believed to be a minor back injury, though, so the 34-year-old veteran outfielder could return to the Dodgers when he's eligible. In addition to his injury, Heyward has gotten off to a slow start in 2024, going 3-for-14 (.214) with two RBI and three runs scored in his first four games. Trammell was just claimed off waivers from the Mariners on Tuesday but will likely just be outfield bench depth in the short term with Heyward injured. Teoscar Hernandez is back in right field again on Wednesday, with Chris Taylor starting in left field for the Dodgers.

Matt Manning To Pitch In Second Game Of Doubleheader

Detroit Tigers right-hander Matt Manning will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Game 2 of the team's doubleheader versus the New York Mets on Thursday. The second straight postponement against the Mets on Wednesday will mean that left-hander Tarik Skubal will presumably start the home opener in an excellent matchup on Friday against the visiting Oakland Athletics. The 26-year-old Manning is essentially the team's No. 6 starter but was forced to open the regular season in the minors. He will be a deep-league and DFS streaming sleeper in the early going against New York after allowing one run and striking out seven in five innings in his first start for Toledo last Friday. Expect Manning to be sent back to the minors following Thursday's start.

Justin Verlander Scheduled For Rehab Start Sunday

Houston Astros right-hander Justin Verlander (shoulder) is scheduled to start for Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, according to manager Joe Espada. Verlander will throw a bullpen session on Thursday at Minute Maid Park before going on his minor-league rehab assignment. The Astros are optimistic that Verlander will only need two starts at Sugar Land before rejoining Houston's starting rotation. The future Hall of Famer and three-time Cy Young winner didn't pitch at all during spring training due to right-shoulder issues, but he hasn't had any setbacks while building his arm up and could make his 2024 debut for Houston in late April. Verlander shouldn't be viewed as a fantasy ace anymore, but it doesn't mean he still can't be productive as a No. 3 or 4 starter if he stays healthy.

Jose Butto Expected To Start Game 2 On Thursday

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo writes that the New York Mets will unofficially proceed with right-hander Adrian Houser in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, and right-hander Jose Butto in Game 2 after the game against Detroit was postponed for the second straight day on Wednesday due to inclement weather. Butto will be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to make his first big-league start of the year after going 1-4 with a 3.64 ERA (4.02 FIP) and 1.33 WHIP with 23 walks and 38 strikeouts in 42 innings over nine appearances (seven starts) for the Mets in 2023. The 26-year-old is likely to head right back down to the minors after his appearance in the second game of the twin bill in New York on Thursday.
