Nolan Jones Leaves Game On Saturday

Colorado Rockies Right Fielder Nolan Jones (knee) left Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds after fouling a ball off his right knee. The Rockies have announced that he has a right knee contusion. No timetable has been set for his return, but this certainly puts his Opening Day status in jeopardy. Jones is expected to be a big part of the Rockies lineup this season after coming on strong in the 2023 season. His spring training has been below par for the 25-year-old, hitting for a .255/.327/.731 slash line without any HR. ATC projects Jones to hit for a .269/.360/.481 slash line with 24 HR and 78 RBI. With an ADP of 71.3, fantasy managers still expect Jones to be a productive contributor to lineups but will need to keep an eye on his status for early season matchups. Jones is considered day-to-day.

Josh Jung Playing Saturday

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (calf) was at third base and hitting third in the lineup Saturday. It was announced earlier in the week that Jung would likely be ready for Opening Day and his getting into the lineup with five days left should bode well for his chances. ATC projects Jung to have a .259/.313/.461 slash line in 2024. Fantasy managers will most likely be more interested in his projected 26 home runs and 81 RBI. Jung connected on 23 homers over 122 games last season with a .266 average. His .340 BABIP calls for a reduction in average but his .201 ISO shows his power potential. The .201 ISO produced by the 26-year-old finished in between household names such as Manny Machado, Jose Ramirez, and Nolan Arenado at third base.

Corey Seager Gets Into Cactus League Action

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (hernia) made his Spring Training debut Saturday. Seager was at shortstop, hitting second to start the game. The 29-year-old had sports hernia surgery in January. Saturday marks his first game action of the spring. Even with the limited action, Seager is not a lock to open the season on the IL. Saturday marks the last game for the Rangers in Arizona but they will play their final Spring Training games on Monday and Tuesday in Texas. 2023's runner-up for the American League MVP award, Seager should be viewed as a top-five or six shortstop for fantasy purposes. Getting into 119 last season, the World Series champion produced a massive .327/.390/.623 slash line with 33 home runs and 96 RBI.

Ceddanne Rafaela Makes Red Sox Roster

Boston Red Sox OF/IF Ceddane Rafaela will be part of the Opening Day roster. Rafaela is a center fielder who could play some second base with Vaughn Grissom out to start the season. Manager Alex Cora praised the 23-year-old for his athleticism and versatility; he also has a .275/.327/.569 slash line over 51 Spring Training at-bats. Rob Refsnyder is also injured to start the season, so Rafaela should be moved between center and second initially. Rafaela is a well regarded prospect but did struggle in a small sample 28 games last season. His 78 OPS+ left a lot to be desired but he has the potential for a 15 home run, 15 steal season. ATC projects a .255/.295/.407 slash line over 459 plate appearances in 2024. He has a 354 ADP but with this news, and the fact he will have shortstop eligibility in some leagues, that number could change drastically over the weekend.

Jacob deGrom Officially Placed On 60-Day Injured List

The Texas Rangers officially placed right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) on the 60-day injured list on Friday to make room for right-hander Michael Lorenzen on the active roster. deGrom, who is recovering from surgery on his right UCL, started playing catch on Feb. 12 and resumed again on the first official day of spring workouts on Feb. 14, just under eight months after the surgery to fix his torn right UCL ended his 2023 season. It was the second Tommy John surgery for the 35-year-old veteran. General manager Chris Young said that deGrom is progressing well in his rehab with an eye on returning around August. He still has a long ways to go in his recovery and shouldn't be relied on for much, if any, fantasy production late in the second half of 2024 if he returns to Texas' starting rotation.
