TJ Friedl Could Avoid 60-Day Injured List

Cincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl (wrist) can return from his broken wrist ahead of the two months he'd have to miss if he were on the 60-day injured list. The 28-year-old will start the season on the injured list after fracturing his wrist while diving for a ball in last Saturday's spring game against the Mariners. He is Cincinnati's starting centerfielder after slashing .279/.352/.467 with 18 home runs, 66 RBI, 73 runs, and 27 stolen bases over 556 plate appearances in 2023. Barring a setback, Friedl will likely make his season debut in May. The Reds are deciding on the final roster spot between Bubba Thompson and Jacob Hurtubise. Neither Thompson nor Hurtubise hold any fantasy value. Jacob Fraley and Will Benson should also see an uptick in at-bats with Friedl sidelined.

Michael Massey Expected To Start Season On The Injured List

Kansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey (back) is expected to start the season on the injured list due to lower back tightness. Massey has been sidelined since Tuesday due to back tightness. He will likely miss the start of the season and could return sometime in mid-April. The 26-year-old slashed .229/.274/.381 with 15 home runs, 55 RBI, 42 runs scored, and six stolen bases over 129 games in 2023. Adam Frazier and utilityman Nick Loftin should see extra playing time at second base with Massey sidelined. Despite receiving an uptick in at-bats, Frazier is mainly an option in deep-league formats heading into 2024 drafts.

Ozzie Albies Blasts Solo Shot On Saturday

Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies hit his second home run of spring training in a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. It was Albies only hit going 1-3 in the loss. He has had a subpar spring so far, slashing 220/.304/.743 with two home runs and five RBI. The Braves second baseman is still expected to be a very productive player in 2024. Albies set new career highs with 33 homers and 109 RBI. ATC is projecting Albies to slash .273/.327/.480 with 27 HR, 93 RBI, and 13 stolen bases over 643 plate appearances. With an ADP of 24, Albies is the top-rated fantasy second baseman and will look to build on his career 2023 campaign in 2024.

Aaron Civale Picks Up First Spring Win On Saturday

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Aaron Civale (1-1) allowed one run on three hits while striking out six over six innings in Saturday's 5-2 spring victory over the Atlanta Braves. He picked up his first spring win of the season. It was the 28-year-old's best spring training start, lowering his ERA to 5.25 and 1.08 WHIP over 12 innings. Civale was limited to 122 innings in 2023 due to an oblique strain. He was traded to the Rays for Kyle Manzardo during last year's deadline. Civale posted a 3.46 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 116:33 K: BB over 122 1/3 innings between the Guardians and Rays in 2023. ATC projects similar numbers for Civale in 2024, with the right-hander to go (9-8) with a 4.05 ERA and 133 K across 144 innings. With an ADP of 240.7, Civale is likely only to be a depth option in most league formats heading into 2024 drafts.

Alex Bregman Blasts Two Three-Run Homers, Collects Six RBI

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman went 3-for-4 with two-three run home runs in the team's 13-5 win over the New York Mets. He took Jose Quintana deep in the first inning for his first three-run homer of the game. The 29-year-old later blasted his second three-run homer off Yohan Ramirez in the fourth inning. It improved Bregman's productive spring stats to a .383/.431/.1.027 slash line in 47 AB. The 29-year-old has an ADP of 59.0 and is projected to hit 23 HR with 86 RBI and 91 runs this season per ATC. RotoBaller has Bregman ranked eighth among all third basemen in the latest rankings, which is in line with his ADP of 85.68 in March. Both fantasy managers and Astros fans can expect Bregman to be a productive piece of their lineup in 2024.
