The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed outfielders Kyle Garlick and Albert Almora to minor-league deals. Garlick, 32, has spent the last three seasons with the Minnesota Twins but his production took a major turn for the worse in the 2023 season. Known as a lefty-masher, the righty-swinging Garlick hit just .179 with a 36.7% K% across a small 30-plate-appearance sample size in the 2023 season. He did hover around league average in his previous two seasons, as per wRC+, and has generally hit left-handed pitching well in his career. Almora, 29, didn't appear in the big leagues in the 2023 season as he suffered a shoulder injury late in the 2022 season. He is a career .239 hitter with 33 home runs and seven stolen bases across 600 MLB contests.

Free-agent outfielder Tony Kemp signed a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training on Friday with the Cincinnati Reds. Kemp will come to camp hoping to win a roster spot as a utility player for a Reds team that is already stacked with position players. The 32-year-old veteran left-handed hitter has hit .240/.330/.345 with 20 home runs, 114 RBI, 37 stolen bases and 172 runs scored for the Oakland Athletics the last two seasons. He's fallen off the last couple of seasons at the plate, though, and batted .209 (75-for-359) with five homers, 27 RBI, a career-high 15 stolen bases and 42 runs scored in 419 plate appearances and 124 games in 2023. Kemp will be facing an uphill battle to make the Opening Day roster for Cincy.

The Miami Marlins signed Cuban free-agent right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez to a minor-league contract on Friday that includes a non-roster invite to major-league spring training, according to sources. Gutierrez was rehabbing from Tommy John surgery last year and only saw 6 1/3 innings in minor-league rehab appearances in 2023. The 28-year-old appeared in 32 games (30 starts) for the Cincinnati Reds in 2021 and 2022 before going under the knife, and he went 10-12 with a 5.44 ERA (5.61 FIP) and 1.53 WHIP with 117 strikeouts and 70 walks in 150 2/3 frames. Now that he's healthy, he'll give the Marlins some depth for their starting rotation, but there's a good chance he'll begin the 2024 season in the minors with Triple-A Jacksonville.

The Seattle Mariners signed free-agent infielder Brian Anderson and right-hander Trevor Kelley to minor-league deals on Friday, according to sources. Both players will receive invites to major-league spring training. The 30-year-old Anderson really struggled in 96 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last year, slashing .226/.310/.368 with nine home runs, 40 RBI and 38 runs scored in 361 trips to the plate before being released after the season. If he makes Seattle's roster, he'll probably serve in a backup or platoon role at third base, at best, with Luis Urias. Kelley, 31, will be looking to serve as relief depth for the Mariners, but he's unlikely to make the big-league roster out of camp. Kelley has a career 6.75 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with 45 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings in four major-league seasons.

Seattle Mariners right-hander Matt Brash said he is "a little banged up" and has been shut down from throwing after his second bullpen session of spring training on Tuesday. General manager Justin Hollander said the team has scheduled the hard-throwing reliever to be "down" through the weekend. The hope is he can resume throwing next week. Brash didn't get into specifics, saying only that "it just didn't feel great" a day after his bullpen. With over a month until Opening Day in late March, the M's are going to be cautious with Brash. He didn't sound too concerned. Brash led the team with 78 relief outings in 2023 and went 9-4 with four saves, a 3.06 ERA, 107 K's and 29 walks in 70 2/3 innings. He proved reliable for the M's and in holds leads in a workhorse setup role late in games.
