Josh Jung Launches First Home Run Of The Season

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and a stolen base in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Jung blasted a two-run shot off Trent Thornton in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game 3-3. It was his first home run of the season. He also added an RBI single to rack up three RBI in Friday's loss. The 27-year-old was recently activated from the injured list on Tuesday after missing some time with neck spasms. Jung has been blistering hot, collecting a hit in all five games he's played this season. Overall, Jung is slashing .474/.474/.842 with a home run, six RBI, three runs, and a stolen base. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Jung while he's swinging a hot bat, and he looks to continue his torrid stretch against the Mariners on Saturday.

Nick Pivetta Posts 10 Strikeouts In Padres Win

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Nick Pivetta picked up 10 punchouts in a masterful performance on Friday night against the Rockies. He went seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits, all to Kyle Farmer. He got six runs of support in the fifth inning and retired the side in order in the seventh inning before handing a 7-0 lead to the bullpen to finish out. The Rockies lead the MLB with a 29.4% strikeout rate and continue to be a great matchup to target for DFS or streaming starting pitchers. Pivetta improved to 2-1 in his three starts this season, with 10 hits against and 18 strikeouts in 17 innings. He's scheduled for another home start in his next outing, but it will be in a tougher matchup against the visiting Cubs next Wednesday afternoon.

Cam Smith Hits First MLB Home Run

Houston Astros third base/outfield prospect Cam Smith went 2-for-4 with a home run during their victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday evening. Smith would knock an RBI single in the sixth inning. Later in the eighth inning, Smith would launch his first MLB long ball, which also scored outfielder Jake Meyers. In addition to his production at the plate this evening, Smith also swiped a bag. After tallying just two hits over his first six games of the season with a 2:9 BB:K, the top prospect has begun to turn the corner. Smith has tallied at least one hit in each of his past three games and two hits in each of his previous two games. The former 14th overall pick from last year's MLB Draft was able to earn a spot on the MLB roster during spring training. Given his recent surge, fantasy managers should expect him to continue to see opportunities in the starting nine.

Andrew Painter Strikes Out Three In Season Debut

Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect Andrew Painter tossed 1 1/3 innings in his season debut with Low-A on Friday evening. In this brief outing, Painter allowed two hits and two runs. He served up one walk and struck out three. Painter was kept sidelined during spring training even though he was not dealing with an injury. Painter underwent Tommy John surgery in July 2023 and has not appeared in a professional game since the 2022 season. Painter was able to pitch briefly in the Arizona Fall League and performed quite well, holding a 2.30 ERA with 18 punchouts across 15 2/3 innings. The team has suggested the budding ace could play a role in the major-league bullpen during the second half of the campaign. He is a name to monitor, as the Phillies may move him up to High-A in the coming weeks.
