Nick Kurtz Goes Deep On Sunday, Extends Hitting Streak To Eight Games

Athletics first base prospect Nick Kurtz went 1-for-4 with a solo shot on Sunday. This was his fourth long ball of the Triple-A regular season. This round-tripper also extended his current hitting streak to eight games. The former fourth overall pick from last year's draft was assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas at the start of the regular season and has performed at an elite level. Through his first eight games, Kurtz has posted an incredible .412/.459/.882 slash line with eight total extra-base hits. He has brought in 12 runs, scored eight, and held a 3:7 BB:K. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production, but Kurtz is becoming an intriguing stash candidate given his impressive start to the regular season. Even though Tyler Soderstrom is the everyday first baseman in the majors, Kurtz may push his way to the big leagues sooner rather than later.

Chandler Simpson Flashing Speed Upside At Triple-A

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop prospect Chandler Simpson has posted a .297/.325/.351 line across his first eight career games at Triple-A. During this productive start, Simpson has done most of his damage on the basepaths, swiping five bags. In the batter's box, he has held a 2:3 BB:K and hit one triple. Last season, Simpson split time between High-A and Double-A and posted a cumulative .355/.410/.397 slash line with 104 stolen bases. At High-A, Simpson swiped 31 bags in 32 contests with a .364 AVG. Then, with Double-A Montgomery, the Georgia Tech product stole 73 bases in just 78 games. He posted a strong .351/.401/.407 slash line with 13 doubles. While Simpson does not carry high power upside, he possesses elite speed. He is a name to closely monitor as he should be in the mix to make his MLB debut later this season.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Gets A 14-Year Extension With Toronto

According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the team agreed on a 14-year, $500 million contract extension. This deal is the third-largest in MLB history and the second-richest in present-day value behind only New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto's contract. After a few free-agent misses during the offseason, the Blue Jays locked in their top player for what will likely be the remainder of his professional career. Throughout his seven-year MLB career with the Blue Jays, he has held a .287/.362/.498 slash line with 160 home runs, 478 runs, 511 RBI, and 20 stolen bases. This deal, undoubtedly, is the largest contract in Blue Jays history, and the fans, the organization, and Guerrero should all be excited about the extension.

Mike Yastrzemski Hits A Three-Run Home Run On Sunday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Mariners. It was the left-handed hitter's first home run of the year, and he's now hitting .333 (8-for-24) with a .484 OBP thanks in large part to seven walks in 31 of his plate appearances. Despite not breaking into the big leagues until he was 28, the 34-year-old has been a productive major leaguer, hitting no less than 15 home runs in each of his five full seasons (even collecting 10 in the shortened 2020 season). As a career .240 hitter, don't expect the .333 average to stick, but the veteran can be a useful source of power, RBI, and runs in deeper and NL-only leagues so long as he's hitting sixth like he was on Sunday.

Chase Dollander Gets A Win In His Debut

Colorado Rockies top pitching prospect Chase Dollander, ranked No. 24 in the top 100 MLB Pipeline, earned his first MLB win on Sunday against the Athletics. In five innings of work, he allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six, which was enough to earn him the win as the Rockies won the game 12-5. The long ball hurt him, as he allowed a two-run home run to Tyler Soderstrom in the first and a solo shot from Lawrence Butler in the fifth. It was a good start for the young right-hander, as the six strikeouts showed a lot of swing and miss promise. Up next for Dollander is a challenging task on the road against the Padres, but fantasy managers might want to keep an eye on him or stash him on their bench in case he lives up to the hype in 2025.
