Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio (shoulder) is dealing with left-shoulder tendinitis in spring training, according to manager John Schneider. It sounds like more of a precaution than anything in mid-February, but Biggio isn't hitting off live pitching on the field just yet in camp. It was reported earlier on Thursday that Biggio, Santiago Espinal and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will be options at both second and third base this year for the Blue Jays. The 28-year-old Biggio could still be ready by Opening Day, but it's something to keep an eye on. He became the team's regular second baseman down the stretch in 2023 but has proven to be a below-average MLB hitter the last several years and will probably bounce around between second and third in 2024 when the team is facing right-handed pitching.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed that Cuban right-hander Yariel Roriguez comes to camp as a starting pitcher, but the club will be cautious with his workload in spring training because of his long layoff. The Blue Jays added the 26-year-old this offseason on a four-year, $32 million deal with the intention of making him a starter in the long-term, but fantasy managers are going to need to be patient since he didn't pitch anywhere at all in 2023 and was a reliever the year before that while pitching in Japan. Rodriguez also had a walk rate approaching 11 percent in 2022 while pitching overseas. Don't be surprised if he begins the 2024 season in the minors so that the Blue Jays can slowly build up his innings, but either way, he's going to be on an innings limit in his first year in the States.

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Sam Bachman (shoulder) won't be ready for Opening Day despite making progress on his rehab. The 24-year-old said he expects to miss the first month of the season and is likely headed to Triple-A Salt Lake to open the season in their starting rotation. Bachman made his big-league debut in the 2023 season and it was a success as he tossed a 3.18 ERA across 11 appearances, all out of the bullpen, and 17 innings of work. However, he also posted a subpar 5.81 ERA across six starts at the Double-A level. Control appears to be his main issue as Bachman posted a 14.3% BB% in the big leagues last season after walking 16.9% of the batters he faced in the minors. A 2021 first-round pick, Bachman's return to action should be monitored by dynasty league managers.

Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Kevin Ginkel is dealing with right elbow soreness and will be slow played a bit during camp. The right-hander enjoyed an excellent 2023 season that saw him work to a 2.48 ERA across 60 appearances, locking down four saves and eight holds in the process. It was the second straight quality season for the 29-year-old after he worked to a 3.38 ERA in the 2022 campaign, albeit in just 30 appearances. The D-backs acquired closer Paul Sewald from the Mariners prior to the trade deadline last season, meaning Ginkel won't be in line for a ton of save opportunities in 2024, although he did post a 27.6% K% last season. He should get his fair share of holds but his fantasy value doesn't warrant an investment on draft day.

Seattle Mariners reliever Eduard Bazardo is behind in his throwing program this spring due to an undisclosed injury. The 28-year-old was acquired in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles last season after he was designated for assignment by the O's. He made 10 MLB outings between the two clubs and posted a 4.50 ERA and a 16.4% K-BB% across 16 innings of work. The right-hander spent much of his season at Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles' organization where he worked to a quality 3.05 ERA across 27 outings while he also posted a 3.86 ERA across 10 appearances with Triple-A Tacoma in the Mariners' organization. Bazardo sports a 3.31 ERA across 26 outings in the big leagues but could open the season on the injured list.
