Shohei Ohtani Still Without Timeline To Face Live Hitters

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani (elbow) threw his first bullpen session since Feb. 25 last Saturday. According to manager Dave Roberts, the session went well, and Ohtani threw 25 fastballs. Ohtani was shut down from throwing for a period to build up as a hitter, but Roberts said the 30-year-old three-time MVP threw a light bullpen on Wednesday and is scheduled to throw a heavier one on Saturday in Philadelphia. However, even though Ohtani is throwing bullpens again, there's no timeline for when he'll face live hitters in simulated games. He's fully expected to pitch for the first time in a Dodgers uniform in 2025, but L.A. is in no rush to debut him on the mound with a fully healthy five-man rotation right now. The priority for the Dodgers is to have the ability to use Ohtani as both a pitcher and a hitter come October. Ohtani didn't pitch at all in 2024 after having Tommy John surgery in September of 2023.

Jordan Lawlar Collects Three Hits, Three RBI On Thursday

Arizona Diamondbacks infield prospect Jordan Lawlar went 3-for-4 with a walk, three RBI, and a run scored for Triple-A Reno on Thursday. All three hits were singles, currently with just one extra-base hit on the youngseason and batting .273, but four walks have given him a nice .407 OBP to start the campaign. Regardless of performance, the D-Backs have to be happy the 22-year-old is simply healthy after playing in just 23 games all of last season due to injuries. In 2023 between Double and Triple-A, the right-handed hitter slugged 20 home runs and stole 36 bases over 105 games, resultingin an MLB debut for the then-20-year-old and even remaining on the team's postseason roster for their run to the World Series. Still young and ranked as MLB's 10th-overall prospect, the former first-round draft pick should push for a return to the majors this year. He's blocked all over the infield for playing time at the moment, but he's an injury away from being recalled. Once he's there, expect him to stay, and he has the talent to be a perennial 20/20 threat.

Carlos Carrasco Strikes Out Five, Picks Up Win

New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco earned the win on Thursday, striking out five in a 9-7 victory over the Diamondbacks. He allowed three runs on five hits and two walks. The veteran is looking to rebound this year after posting a 5.64 and 6.80 ERA over the past two seasons. Things could become complicated once Clarke Schmidt is ready to return, as there's no guarantee Carrasco will stick in the rotation after that point. His next start is currently scheduled to be next week in Detroit.

Luke Weaver Picks Up Save On Thursday

New York Yankees right-hander Luke Weaver picked up the final four outs to preserve a 9-7 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. Weaver held the Diamondbacks scoreless while notching one strikeout to pick up his first save of the season. The veteran hurler usually operates in a set-up role but was called upon to get the save with regular closer Devin Williams away on paternity leave. Williams is expected to return on Friday, which will bump Weaver back to his normal spot. That being said, Weaver is worth a look in fantasy leagues that reward reliever holds. Weaver has now appeared in two games this season, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts for the Yankees.

Aaron Judge Homers Again

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge turned in another big game in a 9-7 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. Judge went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, two runs, and four RBI in helping power the Yankees to the win. The veteran reached 500 extra-base hits for his career with a three-run homer in the first inning. Overall, Judge is off to a red-hot start, hitting .417 with three doubles, five homers, and 15 RBI thus far. He needs to remain locked into fantasy lineups moving forward.
