Ehire Adrianza In Camp With Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have brought infielder Ehire Adrianza into spring training as a non-roster invitee. The veteran appeared in just five big-league games with the Braves last season and failed to record a hit in his 11 trips to the plate. He also played sparingly in the 2022 season when he played just 37 contests between the Nationals and Braves. Known most for his four-year tenure with the Twins from 2017-2020, Adrianza is a career .238 hitter with 21 home runs and 19 stolen bases across 617 career games played. He has spent the bulk of his career at either shortstop or third base but has experience at first base, second base, and the corner outfield spots as he will compete for a super-utility role with the Halos in 2024.

Josh Jung To Have MRI On Calf

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (calf) is set to have an MRI on his left calf after feeling some discomfort in a workout on Friday morning. The 26-year-old enjoyed a potent rookie season in 2023 as he slugged 23 home runs alongside a .782 OPS across 122 games, missing time late in the season with a hand injury. His offensive output was good enough to land him his first All-Star appearance while he finished fourth in American League Rookie of the Year voting. Jung does have some swing-and-miss in his game as evidenced by his 29.3% K% from a season ago while he walked in just 5.8% of his plate appearances, hurting his overall value at the plate. However, his raw power is absolutely worth an investment on draft day.

Nestor Cortes Expects To Be Ready For Opening Day

New York Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes (shoulder) expects to be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season. He arrived to the team's spring training facilities early because he wasn't getting over the hump with regards to his rehab for a left-shoulder strain that ended his 2023 campaign early, but the team's training staff has since helped him get there. Cortes is feeling good in camp now and is currently scheduled to pitch in one of the team's exhibition games in Mexico City on March 24-25. The 29-year-old southpaw made just 12 starts in 2023 due to his shoulder injury and doesn't have a ton of fantasy upside as more of a crafty soft-tosser who relies more on inducing weak contact. Coming off injury, Cortes should be considered a late-round flier for fantasy managers.

Jeff McNeil Cleared For Full Activity

New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil (elbow), who ended last year on the injured list due to a partial UCL tear in his left elbow, said that his follow-up MRI in December showed the continued presence of a tear, which is normal. Doctors cleared him for full activity, and he's a healthy player in spring training. First and foremost, the injury is to McNeil's non-throwing arm, which is good news, but it doesn't mean it won't affect him as a hitter if the injury persists in 2024. The 31-year-old should be New York's primary second baseman, but he'll occasionally see time in the outfield. The two-time All-Star won an NL batting title in 2022, but he disappointed with a .270 average in 2023 while still making plenty of contact and rarely striking out. Power isn't a big part of his game, so fantasy managers will be banking on his average bouncing back and that he's healthy in 2024.

Xander Bogaerts To Play Second Base In 2024

San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts will play second base this year, according to manager Mike Shildt. Ha-Seong Kim will flip with Bogaerts and will be the team's starting shortstop after his breakout 2023 campaign. Shildt hinted at a possible position change for Bogaerts earlier this month, and now it's official. The 31-year-old isn't as good of a defender as Kim is on the infield, so it makes sense, but it makes Bogaerts' 11-year, $280 million contract look even worse. Bogaerts got off to a strong start offensively in his first year in SD in 2023, but he struggled in the summer months and ultimately finished with a decent .244/.308/.358 slash line with 19 home runs, 58 RBI, a career-high 19 steals and 83 runs. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect much more from him moving forward, although he'll be a bit more attractive now that he'll be gaining second-base eligibility in 2024.
