The Oakland Athletics reinstated infield prospect Jacob Wilson (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and also recalled infielder Armando Alvarez from Triple-A Las Vegas. In a corresponding move, infielder Abraham Toro was designated for assignment. After tweaking his hamstring in his major-league debut shortly after the All-Star break following a hit in his first career at-bat, Wilson is back at shortstop and is hitting ninth on Tuesday versus the Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Jakob Junis at Great American Ballpark. The 22-year-old is Oakland's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and is the son of former big-league Jack Wilson. He will play regularly at the 6 for the A's to close out the year, moving Max Schuemann to the hot corner regularly. Wilson is worth a flier in mixed leagues after hitting an absurd .433/.474/.668 with a 1.142 OPS, seven homers and 39 RBI in three minor-league stops.

First baseman/designated hitter Joey Gallo is in the lineup for the Washington Nationals against the New York Yankees on Tuesday, starting at first base and batting eighth in the order against right-hander Gerrit Cole. Gallo is hitting .165/.285/.310 with five homers, 12 RBI, and 18 runs scored in 52 games with the Nationals. He has struck out 78 times in 158 at-bats and has not homered since June 3. Not even the deepest fantasy leagues can justify having Gallo on a roster. At this point, it appears his days as a major-leaguer are winding down. You'll also want to avoid him in DFS against strikeout artist Cole.

The Cincinnati Reds placed pitcher Nick Lodolo (finger) on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 24, with a left middle-finger sprain. Lodolo is 9-6 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 115 1/3 innings, striking out 122 and walking 37 in 21 starts. Lodolo's absence will be felt by fantasy managers in most leagues, and they will scramble to find a replacement for Lodolo, who is averaging more than a strikeout per inning. The Reds called up pitcher Casey Legumina from Triple-A Louisville, where he was 6-2 with a 3.27 ERA in 35 appearances. Legumina has a 13.50 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in two previous appearances this season with the Reds.

The San Francisco Giants placed pitcher Robbie Ray (hamstring) on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with a left-hamstring strain. Ray is 3-2 with a 4.70 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in seven starts with the Giants, striking out 43 and walking 15 over 30 2/3 innings. He had left his previous start against the Seattle Mariners on Monday with tightness in his hamstring. Fantasy managers will scramble to replace Ray's 12.6 K/9 while he is sidelined. The Giants called up Landen Roupp, who had a 4.70 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 15 appearances with the big club earlier in the season.

Oakland Athletics left-handed reliever Scott Alexander (shoulder) threw a bullpen session last Saturday and may face live hitters this week as he progresses from left rotator-cuff tendinitis that put him on the 15-day injured list last Tuesday. There's a chance that Alexander will be ready to come off the IL when he's eligible, especially if the team doesn't think he needs to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 35-year-old veteran southpaw has been pretty solid in his first year with Oakland in 2024, going 1-2 with a 2.51 ERA (3.93 FIP) and 1.12 WHIP with 20 strikeouts and 10 walks in only 28 2/3 innings in his 34 appearances out of the bullpen. Alexander has been a weapon against left-handed hitters, holding them to a .146 batting average on the year in 44 plate appearances.
