New York Mets relief pitcher Ryne Stanek is viewed as a setup man. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that Stanek is viewed as the right-handed setup man while A.J. Minter is viewed as the left-handed setup pitcher. Edwin Diaz is expected to see the vast majority of save opportunities. Last season, Stanek spent time with the Seattle Mariners and Mets. Across 55 1/3 innings, the 33-year-old posted a 4.88 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP. He tallied an impressive 67 punchouts but held a poor 10.2 percent walk rate. Across this stint, he tallied 18 holds. However, during his 16 1/3 innings in Queens, Stanek posted a high 6.06 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP. Fantasy managers in holds leagues should monitor his status during spring training as he could be a viable target in these leagues, as he would likely enter the game in the eighth innings when facing right-handed hitters.

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (foot) will make his spring training debut against the Washington Nationals on Friday. Nimmo has been recovering from plantar fasciitis in his left foot, which is something that bothered him last season as well. The fact he's back in the lineup on Friday means that Nimmo must be feeling better. He'll bat in the cleanup spot and play left field during Friday's game. The 31-year-old saw his numbers take a dive last season, but he does have a good track record. Nimmo has played over 150 games in each of the last three seasons. If healthy, Nimmo will be out there and figures to have a bounce back year in 2025.

New York Mets right-handed pitcher Dedniel Nunez (elbow) is not expected to pitch in spring training games "anytime soon." However, manager Carlos Mendoza noted that the team still believes Nunez could be ready in time for Opening Day. The 28-year-old dealt with a flexor strain during the second half of the 2024 campaign and is slowly working his way back to full strength. When healthy, Nunez should compete for a role in the bullpen. Last summer, Nunez made his MLB debut and held a solid 2.31 ERA with a 0.91 WHIP across 35 innings of work. He tallied an impressive 48 punchouts and generated an elite 39.0 percent chase rate. Nunez also generated a high 53.2 percent ground-ball rate. He tallied nine holds last season and could earn a high-leverage role when cleared for action.

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (foot) is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut soon, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. Nimmo has been delayed in spring training this year after playing through plantar fasciitis in his left foot for the majority of last season. However, the 31-year-old said he's feeling much better now and will be ready for Opening Day at the end of March. Despite dealing with nagging injuries in recent seasons, Nimmo has surprisingly been able to play in at least 151 games for three straight years. However, that doesn't take away from the fact that he's definitely an injury risk in fantasy because of his foot injury that could flare up at any time in 2025. He hit just .224/.327/.399 in 2024 but still managed 23 home runs, 15 steals, a career-high 90 RBI and 88 runs. If he stays healthy all year, Nimmo should be an excellent value pick in fantasy drafts.

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reports that New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee) will begin taking live batting practice early in March on the back fields in camp. The veteran outfielder has been dealing with knee soreness since last summer, although the Mets remain confident he'll be good to go for Opening Day in late March. The 36-year-old Dominican outfielder hasn't played in more than 118 games in his three seasons in Queens due to injuries, and he's hit only 12 home runs with 68 RBI and 40 stolen bases in 180 games combined the last two years. With Juan Soto now New York's starting right fielder, it seems likely that Marte will be in line for a reduced role in New York between the outfield and designated hitter in 2025. It would not be a surprise if the Mets play it safe and put him on the injured list to begin the year. He's ranked as the No. 100 fantasy outfielder at RotoBaller.
