Adam Ottavino Records First Save

New York Mets relief pitcher Adam Ottavino was called upon to close out Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The veteran right-hander is normally a set-up pitcher, but was asked to close with Edwin Diaz being unavailable for this game. Ottavino gave up a home run and got some traffic on the bases. Despite that, he was able to strike out the final two batters and record his first save of the season. It's unlikely that Ottavino gets many more saves in the future with Diaz being the primary option.

Kodai Senga Needs Another Bullpen Session

New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga (shoulder) will throw another bullpen session in the coming days, followed by possibly another live batting practice before going on a minor-league rehab assignment. Senga took extra time between live BP sessions and will now require the additional bullpen, plus perhaps another live BP before the Mets send him on a rehab assignment. Despite being eligible to come off the 60-day injured list on May 27, Senga's absence with a right posterior shoulder capsule strain will almost certainly extend into at least early June. Last year, the 31-year-old ace recorded a strong 2.98 ERA and 1.22 WHIP while striking out 202 and walking 77 in 166 1/3 innings (29 starts) for the Mets and still needs to be stashed in all fantasy leagues. Right-hander Jose Butto and top prospect Christian Scott will continue competing to lock down spots in New York's rotation until Senga is cleared to return.

Tylor Megill Tosses Four Scoreless Innings In Rehab Start

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) threw four scoreless innings in a minor-league rehab start on Tuesday for Triple-A Syracuse with seven strikeouts and just one walk. Manager Carlos Mendoza said on Monday that it was possible this would be Megill's last rehab start. If so, the Mets will have to decide if Megill jumps back into the starting rotation or stays at Syracuse. If the Mets don't move to a six-man rotation when the 28-year-old is activated from the injured list, rookie Christian Scott could be the odd man out and sent back to Syracuse if the Mets are intent on returning Megill to their rotation. In his one start before his injury, Megill gave up just one earned run in four innings against the Brewers on March 31 while walking three and striking out four. He'll be an option in NL-only leagues if he rejoins New York's rotation.

Edwin Diaz Notches Fifth Save Monday

New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz picked up his fifth save of the season in Monday's 4-3 win over the Cardinals. Diaz came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by one and turned in a 1-2-3 performance with a strikeout. The 30-year-old hasn't had as many opportunities in the early going as fantasy managers would hope for, but he has still converted all but one save opportunity with a 2.45 ERA and a 13.50 K/9 rate in 14 2/3 innings pitched.

Brandon Nimmo Hits Fourth Homer Monday

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo had a nice day at the plate in Monday's 4-3 win over the Cardinals. Nimmo went 2-for-5 with a single, a solo home run, and a strikeout. The 31-year-old has been underwhelming offensively to start the season, slashing .228/.376/.394with four HR, 19 runs scored, 22 RBI, and two stolen bases in 157 plate appearances. He has a history of being a solid fantasy contributor, so fantasy managers may want to stick with him for now except perhaps in shallow leagues.
