The New York Mets announced on Wednesday that they have placed right-handed reliever Edwin Diaz (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with a right-shoulder impingement. In a corresponding move, left-hander Josh Walker was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. In his first year back from a knee injury that caused him to miss all of 2023, Diaz has struggled, posting a 5.40 ERA (4.58 FIP), a 1.25 WHIP, five saves, seven walks and 30 strikeouts in 20 innings out of the bullpen. Before landing on the IL, Diaz was temporarily removed from the closer role after a three-outing stretch in which he gave up seven earned runs on seven hits (two homers) while walking three and blowing two saves. He also blew his fourth save in his last appearance against the Giants. It remains to be seen when he'll be able to return to the Mets, let alone be rewarded with save chances again. In the meantime, Reed Garrett and Adam Ottavino could both factor into ninth-inning duties.

New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty and outfielder DJ Stewart are both on the bench on Wednesday for the series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers with left-hander James Paxton on the hill. Mark Vientos will handle third-base duties and hit cleanup, while Tyrone Taylor will play left field and bat sixth against Paxton. The struggling Baty has been in a strict platoon with Vientos of late and will head back to the bench with the club facing a southpaw on Wednesday. If the 24-year-old cannot figure it out at the plate soon, he could star losing even more playing time to Vientos, who has an impressive 1.085 OPS since being called up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 15. Against a lefty, Vientos will be a popular DFS value play on Wednesday.

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo is taking a seat for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers with a left-handed pitcher on the bump. As a result, Tyrone Taylor will get the start in left field and will bat sixth in the order against Dodgers southpaw James Paxton. Nimmo has struggled this year so far to a .215 batting average (40-for-186), but he has still provided a solid on-base percentage (.357) while taking 33 walks in 227 plate appearances. He's gone 10-for-47 (.213) against lefties with two of his seven home runs on the year. Taylor's calling card is his speed and defense in the outfield for the Mets. He's currently batting .234/.259/.336 with two homers, 16 RBI and six stolen bases in 107 at-bats for New York. Taylor has never faced Paxton in his career and has only seven hits in 40 at-bats against lefties in 2024.

Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Ryne Stanek recorded his third save of the season in Tuesday's victory versus the division rival Houston Astros. Stanek did quick work versus his former with back-to-back strikeouts against Alex Bregman and Jake Meyers before getting Jon Singleton to flyout for the victory. The Mariners primary closer Andres Munoz had pitched the previous two days and got Tuesday off. Stanek has been having a solid season out of the bullpen and appears to be entrenched as the next man up behind Munoz, but Munoz remains one of the best closers in the game and save opportunities will be few and far between for Stanek. Despite the good outing, Stanek can remain on the waiver wire in most formats.

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (finger) hurt his left index finger on his bunt attempt late in the loss in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. Lindor's finger was swollen and looked painful, but he said X-rays came back negative for any breaks. The 30-year-old left-handed hitter clubbed a two-run home run in the Game 1 loss and went 1-for-4 in the nightcap of the twin bill, so it's clearly not a serious injury he's dealing with. However, the Mets could certainly give him the day off in Wednesday's series finale, so fantasy managers need to be on the looking to see if Lindor is in the starting lineup. Lindor went 2-for-9 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored in the doubleheader on Tuesday to extend his current hitting streak to seven games.
