Brewers Hoping Jose Quintana Will Have Minimum IL Stint

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana (biceps, shoulder) had additional tests on Thursday, and the results were promising, according to manager Pat Murphy. The Brewers are optimistic that it will be a minimum injured-list stint for Quintana, who is eligible to return on May 26. Quintana was put on the IL on Wednesday with a left-shoulder impingement, but it looks like it won't be long before he'll be back in the big leagues. If he does return when eligible, he'll be lined up for a matchup against the Boston Red Sox. The Colombian hurler has an ERA under 3.00 through his first six starts (34 innings) for the Brew Crew this year, but his 4.56 FIP indicates the soft-tossing lefty has been a bit fortunate to this point. Quintana also has only 24 strikeouts in his 34 innings pitched, and his lack of strikeout upside makes him a volatile low-upside fantasy streamer when he's healthy.

Sean Manaea to Throw Another Bullpen Session on Tuesday

New York Mets left-hander Sean Manaea (oblique) will throw another bullpen session on Tuesday, according to Newsday's Laura Albanese. Now that Manaea is throwing off the mound again, his next step will be to face live hitters before eventually being cleared to go on a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw started a throwing program in the middle of April after receiving platelet-rich plasma injections in his injured oblique. If Manaea avoids setbacks once he starts pitching in games again, he should be able to return to New York's starting rotation in June, but there's no clear timetable for his return. Fantasy managers that have been stashing him are just hoping he can recapture the form he had in 2024 after he made a mechanical adjustment with his arm slot. The former first-rounder had a 3.47 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with a 24.9% strikeout rate in 32 regular-season starts.

Harrison Bader Still Absent On Friday

Minnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader (groin) remains out of the starting lineup for Friday's series opener at American Family Field against the hosting Milwaukee Brewers. Bader will miss his second straight game after tweaking his groin in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles while trying to make a play in right field. Willi Castro is starting in left field on Friday and will hit fifth, while Kody Clemens draws into the lineup at second base while batting out of the six-hole for the Twins. The Twins are short-handed in the outfield heading into their weekend series with both Bader and Byron Buxton (head) injured. It's unclear if Bader is a candidate to land on the injured list, but he's been a contributor both on offense and defense so far in his first season in Minnesota, hitting a healthy .300 with four homers, 18 RBI, 16 runs and four steals in 110 at-bats.

Harrison Bader Out With Groin Injury On Thursday

Minnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader (groin) is not in the team's starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. is starting in left field and will bat ninth against Orioles right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano. Bader exited in the middle of the third inning in Game 2 of the team's doubleheader on Wednesday against the O's with left-groin tightness, so it's not a big surprise he's out for the matinee game on Thursday. The 30-year-old veteran is being considered day-to-day for now, so check back on Friday to see if he's ready to return for the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers. Bader was signed by the Twins in the offseason mainly for his glove, but he's contributed nicely at the plate so far, too, slashing .300/.384/.464 with an .848 OPS, four homers, 18 RBI, 16 runs and four steals. Keirsey has never faced Sugano in his career.

Brewers Place Jose Quintana On 15-Day Injured List With Shoulder Impingement

The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Tuesday that they placed left-hander Jose Quintana (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 11) with a left-shoulder impingement and recalled right-hander Tobias Myers from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Quintana dealt with some shoulder soreness in his last start. The Brewers were originally hoping to push the 36-year-old veteran southpaw back a few days to Saturday, but they have now made the move to sideline him for a couple of weeks to let him rest. It remains to be seen if he'll be able to return to Milwaukee's starting rotation when he's eligible on May 26. Myers, who was recently sent to Triple-A after a poor start, should fill in for Quintana in the rotation in the short term. Quintana had gone 4-1 with a 2.65 ERA and 1.23 WHIP but with only 24 K's in 34 innings in his six starts.
