Aaron Ashby Will be Moved to Long Relief When he Returns

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby (oblique) is currently on a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville and last pitched on Saturday. When Ashby is cleared to return from the 15-day injured list, he'll be ticketed for a long-relief role in the big-league bullpen, according to MLB.com. The 26-year-old southpaw has shown enticing strikeout upside, but injuries continue to set him back, so he'll be relegated to a bullpen role when he makes his 2025 debut. He was originally placed on the IL back on March 27 with a strained right oblique that he suffered in spring training in mid-March. In his four rehab outings (one start), Ashby has surrendered four earned runs on six hits while walking six and striking out five in 6 1/3 frames. He's expected to need a few more rehab appearances before potentially returning to the majors in late May or early June.

Aaron Civale to Make Final Rehab Start on Tuesday

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Aaron Civale (hamstring) made scoreless minor-league rehab starts for Triple-A Nashville on May 8 and 14 and is scheduled to make his final appearance with Nashville on Tuesday before rejoining Milwaukee's starting rotation, according to MLB.com. Civale threw five scoreless innings on 60 pitches in his most recent rehab outing last Wednesday for Nashville. The 29-year-old has been on the 15-day injured list since March 31 due to a strained left hamstring, but he's on the verge of returning to the major leagues. In his lone start in 2025 on March 30 against the New York Yankees, Civale was touched up for five earned runs on four hits (three homers) while walking one and striking out two in three innings. There's not a ton of strikeout upside here, but Civale can be an innings-eater for rotation depth in deep-mixed fantasy leagues.

Brandon Woodruff to Begin New Rehab Assignment on Wednesday

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (ankle, shoulder) simulated multiple innings in a bullpen session on Sunday and is tentatively scheduled to start a new minor-league rehab assignment on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. Woodruff will probably pitch at least two more times in the minors after having a setback during his recovery from right-shoulder surgery with right-ankle tendinitis. The 32-year-old injured his ankle on May 11 in what was expected to be his final rehab appearance, pushing back his 2025 debut. Because of the setback, he probably won't make his season debut in Milwaukee until early June. Expectations must be tempered for Woodruff this year after he missed all of 2024 following shoulder surgery, but the former ace should still be rostered in all fantasy formats and has the potential to help in the second half.

Tyler Black Expected to Move Rehab to Triple-A Next Week

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Tyler Black (hand) had surgery in late March during spring training for a right-hamate fracture in his hand and started a minor-league rehab assignment at the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on May 15, according to MLB.com. Black is expected to move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Nashville next week. The 24-year-old was initially estimated to miss six to eight weeks, so it's possible he'll be able to return to action in June, barring a setback. The team's No. 6-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline, played in his first 18 major-league games last year and struggled with a .204 average (10-for-49) with no homers, two RBI, 17 strikeouts and seven walks in 57 plate appearances. Many players experience a drop in power upon their return from hamate surgery, so Black will most likely return to the minors when his rehab assignment is up next month.

Jeferson Quero Expected to Move Rehab to Triple-A Soon

Milwaukee Brewers catching prospect Jeferson Quero (hamstring, shoulder) injured his hamstring just as he was completing his comeback from last year's shoulder surgery. Quero is now expected to move from the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to Triple-A Nashville as soon as next Monday, according to MLB.com. In six games in the ACL, Quero has gone 2-for-15 with two home runs, three RBI, four runs scored, five walks and one strikeout. The 22-year-old catching prospect missed all of the 2024 season due to his shoulder surgery, but he's past that injury now and is getting close to making his 2025 debut in the minor leagues. Per MLB Pipeline, Quero is Milwaukee's No. 2 prospect and the fifth-best catching prospect. Despite being one of the best catching prospects in all of baseball, Quero is currently blocked at the big-league level by William Contreras.
