2024 Team Stats

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that initial X-rays on right-hander Brandon Woodruff's right elbow came back negative after he was hit by a comebacker in his minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday evening. Woodruff will still head back to Milwaukee for more testing, but it appears for now that he's avoided a potentially serious injury. The veteran hurler is officially being diagnosed with a right-elbow contusion for now, which could once again delay his 2025 debut. Woodruff didn't pitch at all last year after having right-shoulder surgery in November of 2023. He was nearing a return last month being ankle tendinitis pushed him back. Now he's dealing with an elbow contusion. It's been a wild ride for fantasy managers stashing the former ace, but everyone should continue to hold onto him with a return potentially right around the corner.

Milwaukee Brewers catching prospect Jeferson Quero (hamstring) has been reassigned to Triple-A Nashville after completing an 11-game rehab assignment with the team's Arizona Complex League affiliate. The Brewers' second-ranked prospect went 1-for-5 with a single and two strikeouts in his first game back with the Sounds on Tuesday night. In his last full season of 2023, the 5-foot-11 backstop hit .262 with 16 home runs and registered a .339 OBP thanks to a 10.0 percent walk rate in 90 games at Double-A. Due to so much missed time, he'll have to get off to a hot start in order to get the call to majors by season's end, and with William Contreras locked in as the starting catcher, there's no need to rush him.

New York Yankees relief pitcher Devin Williams secured his sixth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Guardians on Tuesday. A double, single, and stolen base suddenly brought Cleveland within one with the tying run in scoring position, but Williams managed to get Bo Naylor to fly out to escape the inning. This was the reliever's first appearance since officially stepping back into the closer role with Luke Weaver going on the injured list. The 30-year-old was effective overall after being dismissed from his ninth-inning duties a few weeks ago, but whenever he finds himself in a save situation, it ends up being stressful. It may be a mental hurdle more than anything at this point, and he should have plenty of time to work through it with Weaver expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks.

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (elbow, shoulder) was pulled from his minor-league rehab start on Tuesday with Triple-A Nashville after being hit on the right elbow by a 108.2 mph comebacker with two outs in the second inning, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. Woodruff will return to Milwaukee for X-rays and additional testing on Wednesday, at which point we should know more about the severity of his injury. It's been one thing after another for the 32-year-old as he attempts to return from shoulder surgery in November of 2023. He was nearing a return from his rehab assignment last month before being set back by ankle tendinitis. Depending on the severity of his elbow injury, Woodruff's managers stashing him might have to wait even longer. Woodruff was a fantasy ace before his shoulder surgery, but he missed all of last season.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that right-handed reliever Devin Williams will do most of the closing while righty Luke Weaver (hamstring) is sidelined. Weaver, who took over closing duties from Williams early in the season, strained his hamstring on Sunday and could be out for anywhere from four to six weeks. Boone also noted that Fernando Cruz (shoulder) is returning from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday, so he'll help bolster the bullpen with Williams out as well. While Williams' 6.23 ERA and 1.43 WHIP on the season in 21 2/3 innings isn't pretty, he's pitched better of late and has allowed only two earned runs while striking out 15 and walking two in his last 10 innings pitched. His fantasy stock is now up with save chances coming regularly again, and it's possible that he'll stick in the ninth-inning role if he's pitching well when Weaver is ready to return.
