Ryan McMahon Blasts Solo Shot On Friday Night

Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon went 2-for-5 and hit a solo shot in the Rockies' 3-2 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. The solo shot was McMahon's fifth homer of the season, and he's now hitting for a .920 OPS on the season. This would be the best mark of the lefty's career. Fantasy managers weary of starting McMahon on the road should note that the 29-year-old is hitting for a higher OPS on the road (.956) than he is at Coors Field (.878). That may be put to the test on Saturday, though, as McMahon gets a matchup against dominant Pirates rookie Jared Jones.

Jacob Stallings Hits Three-Run Homer Thursday

Colorado Rockies catcher Jacob Stallings went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in a 5-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Thursday. Stallings kicked off the scoring for the Rockies with a three-run blast off Edwin Cabrera in the second inning, but it wasn't enough for the Rockies as they fell to Miami in extra innings. Stallings has been swinging a hot bat as the backup catcher in Colorado as he's batting .345 with one homer, four runs, and five RBI across 29 at-bats. That being said, he will need to see more consistent playing time to work his way into the conversation as a fantasy option.

Justin Lawrence Headed For Paternity List

The Colorado Rockies are expected to place right-handed reliever Justin Lawrence on the paternity list and to summon right-hander Angel Chivilli from Double-A Hartford for their upcoming series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. Lawrence is technically the Rockies' closer with two saves on the year, but he's also sporting an ugly 7.20 ERA (2.94 FIP) and 1.80 WHIP with five walks and 10 strikeouts in his 10 innings in 11 appearances out of the 'pen for the lowly Rockies. The 29-year-old is only worth rostering for fantasy managers that are desperate for saves, but Lawrence isn't going to see a ton of chances if the Rockies continue playing like they have been. If a save situation arises this weekend in Pittsburgh with Lawrence away, it will likely go to Jake Bird.

No Timetable For Kris Bryant's Return

Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black says outfielder/infielder Kris Bryant (back) is hoping to soon resume baseball activities. Bryant has ramped up his activity level and is getting closer to swinging, but he's still not yet cleared to resume all baseball activities. With that said, Bryant has no timetable for a return from a strain in his lower back and should be considered out indefinitely. Considering the 32-year-old former All-Star was slashing just .149/.273/.255 with one home run, two doubles, six RBI, and three runs scored in 55 plate appearances (13 games) for the Rocks before heading to the injured list, fantasy managers can find better stashes on waiver wires. Elehuris Montero is working as Colorado's everyday first baseman in the meantime, but he's not producing enough at the moment to warrant consideration outside of the deepest NL-only leagues.

Nolan Jones Placed On Injured List

The Colorado Rockies placed outfielder Nolan Jones (back) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 29) with a lower-back strain. With Jones going to the IL, Colorado selected the contract of outfielder Jordan Beck to the major league roster, and left-hander pitcher Lucas Gilbreath has been transferred to the 60-day injured list. This season, Jones is slashing .170/.243/.277 with one home run, as he last played on April 28 and went 1-for-2 with one strikeout. Beck is the Rockies No. 4 prospect, per MLB pipeline, will likely play everyday while Jones is on the IL.
