We didn’t get the W Tuesday night, as Adam Wainwright avoided the big inning and the Orioles stranded runners in scoring position all night. That’s baseball, as we move on and turn our attention to another one of MLB’s hottest clubs. The AL West race has come down to the last month of the season, as the Mariners look to continue their second-half surge against the Shohei Ohtani-less Angels.

Seattle’s offense has been raking for quite some time now, and I don’t expect them to slow down jere against the Halos. The Mariners are tied for the highest wRC+ with the Astros over the last 30 days at 138. The M’s rank third in wOBA, HR, and runs in that stretch. Slashing .278/.360/.492 as a team with 52 dongs. Seattle is averaging just under six runs a game over that period at 5.86, which is the fifth highest in the Show. The Mariners have a 10% barrel rate on the season, ranking third-best in all of baseball.

Andrew Wantz takes the ball for the Angels on getaway day, making his 21st appearance of the season and his second career start. Wantz is nothing more than an opener for the Angels, as they deploy a bullpen day as large underdogs. Only the Rockies have a higher bullpen ERA than LAA’s 6.20 over the last 30 days. The pen has allowed the second-highest wOBA at .387 and a slash line of .311/.388/.531. They’ve surrendered 82 runs and 20 long balls over that period, both second-most as well. I mentioned Seattle’s ability to barrel the baseball, and over the last 14 days, the Angels pen has allowed a 10.8% barrel% – the fourth-worst in MLB. The Angels 5.11 SIERA over that stretch ranks third-worst.
