The Best MLB Props Bets  for Monday

Tyler Mahle OVER 4.5 K

(-120, BetMGM)

Mahle is our Free Bet of the Day at FTN Bets and we’ve seen the line move from +120 to -120, but I’m still on it. Mahle was limited to 120.2 innings last season between the Reds and the Twins due to an injury, but he’s healthy now as he heads into his first full season with Minnesota. Mahle had 126 strikeouts last season (25 K% & 9.40 K/9), which was down from the 210 he had over 180 innings in 2021 (27.7 K% & 10.5 K/9). I like him to get back to a strikeout per inning pitcher in 2023. Small sample size, but the Marlins’ 29.7 K% through the first few days of the MLB season is the third-highest in baseball. They ranked fifth in strikeout percentage last season (24%) and 24th in team wOBA vs. RHP. Again, it’s early, but the Marlins only mustered eight runs through their first four games.

Reid Detmers OVER 5.5 K

(+100, BetMGM)

If you guys have been following some of my work on Mean Streets this year, you already know I’m all in on Reid Detmers. The Angels’ pitcher along with Jeffrey Springs were two of my favorite arms to draft in Fantasy Baseball. I don’t think we’ll get a 12 K no-hit showing from Detmers in his season debut like we got from Springs yesterday, but I’m excited about his outlook. Detmers showed promise in the first half of last season, but was sent down due to some command issues. He had a very strong second half after he was recalled, which consisted of a 26 K%, 13.1 SwStr%, 57.5% O-Contact Rate and 73% Contact Rate. Some of those numbers translated into a fantastic spring as he racked up 27 strikeouts in 20 innings. The lefty is stronger and more explosive after an offseason workout plan as his fastball has moved from 93 to 95-97 MPH and he’s seen an uptick in his slider as well (87 to 88-91). Through four games, the Mariners have a 24.6 K% rate and last season their 23 K% against southpaws was tied for the 10th-highest mark in the game. I don’t want to look too much into Detmers vs. Seattle last season because he feels like a different pitcher, but he only allowed two runs in 13 innings against them while striking out 10.
