Summary

Since arriving in Boise, Ashton Jeanty has put on a clinic. He produced over 900 scrimmage yards as a freshman, followed by a Mountain West-leading 1,916 scrimmage yards as a sophomore. Then, it all came to a head this year when he led college football with 2,601 rushing yards. His impressive junior campaign helped lead the Broncos to the College Football Playoff and earned him Heisman consideration – finishing second in the voting. Over the last three years, Jeanty has been the cog that keeps the Broncos moving, scoring 56 scrimmage touchdowns. His 2,601 rushing yards in 2024 was second in FBS history, and he became the only player in FBS history to rush for over 100 yards 14 times in a season.

Jeanty has a short bowling ball-like frame, standing 5-foot-9, 215 pounds, and runs with incredible fluidity and ease. Behind the line of scrimmage, Jeanty is a patient runner with great anticipatory senses and vision. He also presses the line of scrimmage very well, but at times gets too close to his linemen and can get caught up in traffic. Pairing these traits with his instantaneous acceleration makes him a great zone scheme runner, who exposes cutback lanes for significant gains. His lateral quickness, along with his agility, allows him to alter his path while generating positive yardage. As more of a bursty runner, there is a concern about his endurance and top-end speed at the next level.

Through the hole, he has good flexibility at his hips, allowing him to bend his upper body through holes to limit his surface area for contact. Marrying this with his thick powerful frame elevates his tackle-breaking skills, especially once he is moving north and south with speed, which generates good pop behind his pads. If tacklers get to him before he gets moving, he struggles to power through them. With a shorter frame and a strong pad level, he is often the low man at the point of contact. Pairing this with his strong contact balance, it is almost impossible to bring him to the ground in one-on-one situations. His game is not all power, though. He has displayed the ability to freeze defenders in the hole with a shimmy or hurdle would-be tacklers. He’ll need to continue this if he hopes to have a long NFL career.

In the passing game, Jeanty has good hands and can expose defenses in the screen game. He doesn’t have an expansive route tree but can run the basic running back routes with authority. He is a solid blocker who doesn’t shy away from contact. There are situations when he is beaten easily, but this is largely due to his size or technique.

Fantasy Outlook

Jeanty is an immediate plug-and-play player for almost any team in the league and will be the same for your fantasy roster. He is best in zone-blocking schemes but can operate with success in gap schemes. With two seasons of over 260 touches, he has shown the ability to be a workhorse back. With no glaring faults in his game, he will likely generate high-end fantasy production for many years to come.
