Anthony Rendon Set For Live At-Bats This Week

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) is scheduled for live at-bats against minor-league pitchers on Friday and Saturday at Angel Stadium. Rendon could get anywhere from 15 to 20 at-bats each day. Despite having not played in a game since suffering a left-hamstring strain on April 20, it sounds like the Angels are considering activating the 34-year-old veteran from the injured list next week before the club heads to the All-Star break. The Halos are in even more need of infield help after just placing Luis Rengifo (wrist) on the IL on Friday. Still, Rendon will probably be eased back into action at the big-league level when he returns because of how long he's been out. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues can probably wait and see on Rendon after he hit .267 (20-for-75) with no homers and only three RBI earlier this year before getting hurt yet again.

Angels Hope Anthony Rendon Will Return Next Week

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) is on track to take live batting practice during this weekend's series against the Cubs in Chicago. Manager Ron Washington said prior to Wednesday's game against the division-rival Oakland Athletics that the club hopes Rendon will be ready to get on the field for the Angels' matchup against the defending-champion Texas Rangers on Monday. There is currently no plan for Rendon to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before returning from a strained left hamstring. Although the 34-year-old former All-Star is hardly relevant in fantasy baseball at this stage of his career, he still projects as Anaheim's primary third baseman when healthy. Brandon Drury will be at risk of losing playing time in the infield upon Rendon's seemingly imminent activation from the 60-day injured list.

Anthony Rendon Seen Taking Grounders On Friday, Set To Face Live Pitching

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) was seen taking live grounders at third base on Friday and will now face live pitching on Thursday or Friday of next week, according to Michael Huntley of the Sporting Tribune. In addition, Angels skipper Ron Washington said he hopes Rendon can return to the diamond on July 8, when the Angels will start a three-game set against the Texas Rangers. The 34-year-old was shifted to the 60-day injured list on May 9 with a high-grade tear in his left hamstring. Prior to the injury, Rendon posted a .267/.325/.307 line with no home runs, three RBI, three swiped bags, and a 6:15 BB:K ratio in 19 games. When he returns, he should be expected to slot in as the everyday third baseman in Los Angeles, which will shift Luis Rengifo, who has been covering the hot corner, to second base.
