Josh Bell, Jesus Sanchez Sitting Against Lefty

Both Miami Marlins first baseman Josh Bell and outfielder Jesus Sanchez will retreat to the bench on Saturday with the visiting Chicago White throwing a left-hander. Jake Burger will start at first base and bat third, while Dane Myers will draw into right field and serve as the cleanup hitter against White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet, who has been one of the best starters in baseball in the first half. Emmanuel Rivera also draws into the lineup at third base while batting fifth for the Fish. Bell has hit only .216 (24-for-111) with three of his eight homers this year against southpaws, while Sanchez has been even worse against lefties with a .093 average (4-for-43) with one of his nine long balls. Both left-handed hitters have decent power from the left side but have been below-average hitters for fantasy managers in 2024.

Jesus Sanchez Has Huge Game In Loss

Miami Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez fell a single short of the cycle in Thursday's extra-inning loss versus the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Sanchez went 3-for-5 on the day with a double, triple and two-run home run. The outfielders Statcast profile has projected a power surge coming for a while now and now it may finally be happening with two home runs in his last three contests and back-to-back three-hit games. The left-handed Sanchez has always shown plenty of power in his profile and is up to nine homers on the season to go along with 33 RBI, six stolen bases and a respectable .247 batting average. In terms of fantasy, Sanchez is worth a trial period in deeper mixed leagues with his recent surge, but he is unlikely to have much long-term value. It should also be noted that he often sits against left-handed pitchers, making him a better play in daily leagues than weekly.

Jesus Sanchez Out Against A Lefty

Miami Marlins outfielders Jesus Sanchez and Nick Gordon are both sitting out on Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies with a left-hander on the mound. It's the second time in the series in Philly where both Sanchez and Gordon have been benched with a southpaw on the mound. Dane Myers is starting in right field and is batting sixth, while Bryan De La Cruz is in left field and is hitting third versus Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez. Neither Myers nor De La Cruz will be particularly attractive in DFS lineups in the tough matchup on the road. Sanchez has not been able to figure out left-handers this year, going just 4-for-41 (.098) with one of his seven home runs and 11 strikeouts against them. It has limited the 26-year-old's fantasy appeal in mixed leagues in 2024. Overall, he's hitting .236 (54-for-229) with seven homers, 29 RBI and six stolen bases.
