Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers Clayton Kershaw (toe), Tony Gonsolin (back), and Michael Kopech (shoulder) were all placed on the 15-day injured list on Monday night. These were part of a flourish of roster moves the Dodgers made prior to their opening game in Tokyo, Japan. None of these moves came as a surprise, as these injuries have been known for a while. Kershaw is expected to require an extended absence as he recovers from toe surgery, but Gonsolin and Kopech figure to be in the mix much sooner. Kopech is an arm the Dodgers will definitely be eager to get back after he posted a 1.13 ERA and 0.79 WHIP in 24 innings after being dealt to them last season from the Chicago White Sox.

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin (back) is reportedly dealing with a back injury he picked up while lifting. It is unfortunate news for the righty, as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts notes that although it is thought to be a minor issue, Gonsolin won't be in the rotation for opening day. Roberts also reported that pitcher Dustin May will take Gonsolin's place as the team's fifth starter. The 30-year-old former ninth-round pick hasn't pitched in a big-league game since 2023 after requiring Tommy John surgery that stemmed from inflammation reported in mid-August. However, he was superb the season prior, compiling a 2.14 ERA and 0.87 WHIP for the team across 24 starts (16-1). It's unclear when Gonsolin will be ready to rejoin the rotation. Still, he could be a valuable arm for fantasy managers if he can recapture his form from a few seasons ago.

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tony Gonsolin (elbow) will start the team's second Cactus League game on Friday against the Chicago Cubs, with Nick Frasso starting on Saturday versus the Kansas City Royals. Gonsolin had Tommy John surgery in September of 2023, which caused him to miss the entire 2024 season with the Dodgers. The 30-year-old did make three minor-league rehab starts late last year and is ready to go for the start of the 2025 campaign. However, he's not a lock for a starting rotation spot and is competing with Dustin May, Bobby Miller, Landon Knack and Justin Wrobleski this spring. Gonsolin was an All-Star in 2022 and went 28-7 with a solid 3.36 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 266:109 K:BB in 289 innings over 59 outings (57 starts) from 2021-23, though, which could give him a leg up on a rotation spot.
