Training camps provide our first look into NFL players and teams as we prepare for the upcoming fantasy football season. Information will now begin to flood our social media timelines, leaving us to determine the subsequent fantasy impact. It’s a matter of knowing which information matters, and which should be ignored.

So each day in this space, we’ll take a trip through the top news and takeaways around the league’s training camps to offer up what fantasy managers need to know as we head through draft season and into the 2023 NFL regular season.

Let’s take a look around the league at the key takeaways from Tuesday.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Out 3-4 Weeks

Seattle first-round draft pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba had surgery for a fractured wrist he suffered in Saturday’s preseason game against Dallas.

Week 1 appears to be a long shot for the dynamic rookie, who has produced a strong preseason for the Seahawks passing attack.

Good News for Terry McLaurin

An MRI on Terry McLaurin’s revealed no major damage, providing optimism the fifth-round wideout could be ready for Week 1.

McLaurin has been one of the league’s most consistent producers, posting three consecutive seasons of 1,000 yards or more.

Kansas City’s Chris Jones Still Not Reporting

Chiefs star defensive tackle Chris Jones appears to be fine with missing regular season games if he cannot reach a long-term deal with Kansas City.

Jones was third in Defensive Player of the Year voting last season, and is still under contract with a projected salary of $20 million. He is rumored to want to be “at least the second-highest-paid player at his position” on a new deal per Nate Taylor of The Athletic.

Baker Mayfield Named Buccaneers Starting QB

Baker Mayfield has officially won the quarterback battle in Tampa Bay.

Mayfield will start Week 1 at Minnesota after beating out 2021 second-round pick Kyle Trask this preseason.
