Phoenix Mercury at Seattle Storm
The Seattle Storm continue to play at a high level. They enter Tuesday as winners of four straight games and five of their last six. A crucial part of their recent success can be attributed to Skylar Diggins-Smith finding her rhythm offensively. The Storm also have the fourth-best defensive rating in the league (94.4). The Mercury have had nowhere near similar success defensively; they enter with the second-worst defensive rating in the WNBA (104.4). The Mercury snapped a three-game losing skid with their win against the Sparks Sunday, but they continue to struggle to find traction without Brittney Griner.
Skylar Diggins-Smith vs. Phoneix Mercury
There will undoubtedly be two things on Diggins-Smith’s mind Tuesday: victory and revenge. This will be the first time we see Diggins-Smith face her former team since signing with Seattle in free agency. Opposing guards have had success against the Mercury over the first month of the season. Phoenix allows the second-most points per game and the most threes per game. Diggins-Smith is averaging 18 PPG over her last three and is shooting 60% from 3PT range after a slow start from beyond the arc. Tuesday, we have a rare edge powered by both matchup and motive.
