When looking for DFS golf core plays in Texas, you have to be willing to adapt to weather. This week, it’s not so easy, though. We have afternoon storms in the forecast both Thursday and Friday which means weather could have zero impact or could stop play entirely, depending on when the storms arrive and how close the storms get to the course.
Knowing that, it’s very possible that one side of the draw gets the short end of the stick, but nearly impossible to predict with any certainty. I think it’s very viable to do one a.m. stack, one p.m. stack, and one mixed, if you are doing a three-max build. For single-entry, I’m not going to blindly guess unless the forecast starts to look more certain.
Having said that, let’s jump right in and talk about my favorite plays for the Houston Open.
Core Targets
Rory McIlroy
Through signature events and TGL, Rory is playing as much pre-Masters golf as ever. Could this have been the missing piece to his Grand Slam puzzle all along? He just needed to be forced to play more golf and find his groove? I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks but right now he clocks in at +3.09 strokes gained per round relative to this week’s field, over the last three months. That is in 2024 Scottie territory. Currently I have his A-Game grading out two shots better than Scottie and five shots better than third place in the field (Finau). I’d be fine playing him all the way up to 40% ownership this week so to see him projected just under 30% at the moment makes this an easy decision as my favorite spend up.
