Who are the Favorites at Wimbledon?
Novak Djokovic (-130)
Djokovic will take the court as the three-time defending champion. FanDuel’s odds imply that Djokovic has a 57% chance to become the fourth player in the Open Era to win four consecutive Wimbledon titles.
Matteo Berrettini (+600)
Last year’s runner-up enters Wimbledon having won two consecutive grass tournaments at Stuttgart and London. With a 9-0 record on grass this year, Berrettini is a serious threat to atone for 2021’s loss to Novak Djokovic.
Rafael Nadal (+750)
Wimbledon hasn’t treated Nadal as kindly as tennis’ other Grand Slam venues, but he does have two titles. Although they were over a decade ago, Nadal is still a legitimate contender in any tournament when healthy.

Wimbledon Overview
2022 marks the 135th time that the Wimbledon Championships will take place at the All England Club in London. It’s the only Grand Slam tournament played on grass, tennis’ original surface. Additionally, the event is filled with traditions such as an all-white dress code, royal patronage, and, of course, consumption of strawberries and cream.
2022 Wimbledon Top Storylines
Age of Alcaraz
The rising Spanish superstar ranks among the world’s best at just 19 years old and has proven he can hang with the big boys. In the Madrid Open in early May, Alcaraz knocked off fellow countryman Rafael Nadal on clay, took down world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, and made quick work of second-ranked Alexander Zverev in the championship.
Are we witnessing the beginning of a new era? A passing of the torch? Some people sure think so.
Djokovic Going for Fourth Consecutive Title
Novak Djokovic is the world No. 1 and the three-time defending champ at Wimbledon, but he hasn’t played up to his own lofty standard so far in 2022. He’ll look to get on track and bolster his legendary body of work with another Grand Slam victory. At this point in his career, Djokovic is playing for the all-time Grand Slam title and sole ownership of the sport’s “G.O.A.T” honor.
Singles Grand Slam Race
While the aforementioned Djokovic has dominated this tournament for the better part of a decade, he actually trails Rafael Nadal in the all-time singles Grand Slam race. Nadal’s 21 victories narrowly top Djokovic’s 20. That could change at the French Open prior to Wimbledon, but these two – and Roger Federer to a lesser extent – will be connected until they retire.
Russian and Belarusian Ban
In April, Wimbledon made the decision to ban all Russian and Belarusian competitors in response to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. As a result, world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev and eighth-ranked Andrey Rublev are not allowed to compete.
The ATP reacted by stripping the tournament’s ranking points, meaning Wimbledon victories do not count toward a player’s world ranking. Even through very public dissent from the sport’s top players, commentators and fans, Wimbledon has held firm on its ruling.
