PGA PrizePicks for the Mayakoba Golf Classic

PrizePicks offers a different way to play fantasy sports than simply building a lineup of different golfers on a salary. There are different categories of props and matchups, which are not often offered anywhere else.

PrizePicks has birdie matchups, fairways hit, greens in regulation, score and occasionally scoring on set holes on the course. These props are set up for single-round action allowing you to adjust as you go and get more information as the tournament progresses. Occasionally, such as for majors, PrizePicks will offer “holes played,” which basically picks golfers to make or miss the cut, in which case the props will take place over the first two rounds.

If you have never played on Prize Picks or want more background, I highly suggest reading this article by FTN’s Tyler Loechner on how it works. It’s a great breakdown of how the site works.

Now, let’s get into the picks for this week.

Mayakoba Round 1 Picks

Maverick McNealy o4.5 BoB

This course should be one where birdies are made early and often. We have seen Viktor Hovland win here back-to-back years with scores of -23 and -20, and every winner since 2020 has finished -20 or better. McNealy is 6th in this field in BoB% and should be able to thrive on these par 5s.

Aaron Wise o4.5 Birdies or Better

Wise is another player who should tear these par 5s apart, and he too ranks extremely well in this field in terms of BoB%, ranking 10th in this field.

Aaron Rai over Callum Tarren — BoB Matchup

Two primarily Euro Tour players over the course of their career face-off here, and Aaron Rai should fit this course pretty well. He hits lots of greens in regulation and is very accurate off-the-tee. Tarren makes birdies at a decent rate, but he has been very inaccurate off-the-tee in his time on the PGA tour and has also struggled with the putter at times.
