PGA PrizePicks for the BMW Championship

PrizePicks offers a different way to play fantasy sports than simply building a lineup of different golfers on a salary. There are different categories of props and matchups, which are not often offered anywhere else. I’m going to go through a few plays of mine for the St. Jude Championship.

PrizePicks has birdie matchups, fairways hit, greens in regulation, score and occasionally scoring on set holes on the course. These props are setup for single-round action allowing you do adjust as you go and get more information as the tournament progresses. Occasionally, such as for majors, PrizePicks will offer “holes played” which is basically picks golfer to make or miss the cut, in which case the props will take place over the first two rounds.

If you have never played on Prize Picks or what more background, I highly suggest reading this article by FTN’s Tyler Loechner on how it works. It’s a great breakdown of the site works.

St. Jude Picks

Birdie or Better Matchups

  • Shane Lowry OVER Kevin Kisner
  • Sungae Im OVER Tom Hoge

I’m targeting a couple matchups in Round 1 in which I believe I’m getting the much better golfer without any large gap in birdie rate. The largest correlation to birdies is talent, and while yes, there are golfers who make more birdies than expected, at the end of the day talent wins. At times Lowry does struggle to rack up a ton of birdies but I think TPC Southwind plays more into his favor with that because it’s not a course that always gives up a ton of birdies. Kisner has a higher birdie rate than Lowry but he’s not as good of a golfer and isn’t playing particularly well right now. Sungjae is in great form and even his baseline is substantially higher than Hoge’s in my ratings. Both have similar birdie rates, with Im being slightly higher than Hoge but the main reason for picking the matchup is the sizeable difference in talent and I think Im is a solid fit for Southwind and can do some damage here.
