Carolina Hurricanes -170 @ Chicago Blackhawks +140 — O/U 5.5

The Hurricanes and Blackhawks face off for the fourth time this season, with the Hurricanes leading the season series 2-1. All three games so far have over the goal total; we’ve seen 25 combined goals scored in the three matchups.

A lot has changed for the Hurricanes since then, especially in goal, as Alex Nedeljkovic enters with a .929 save percentage and 2.05 GAA. He carries an 8-2-2 record into this matchup and is expected to make his first career start against Chicago. Nedeljkovic has won six of his past seven starts and he has earned a point for his team in seven straight games. He’s allowed three or fewer goals in nine consecutive outings and two or fewer in seven of those starts.

Carolina has won three straight and 16 of its last 23. A large part of their success has been the fact that they’ve only allowed more than three goals in two of their past 19 games. Overall, they’ve surrendered the fourth-fewest goals at 5v5 per 60 minutes (1.86), according to Natural Stat Trick. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks rank 25th in GF/60 and they’ve coughed up the ninth-most at 5v5/60 (2.5). Chicago has lost eight of its last 11 games and Carolina’s 12 road wins are tied for the most in the NHL.

Prediction: 4-2, Carolina
Best bet: Carolina
Total: Over

Dallas Stars -125 @ Nashville Predators +100 — O/U 5.5

The Predators return home to face the Stars after a two-game sweep in Chicago against the Blackhawks. The Preds are playing their best hockey of the season and enter on a five-game winning streak, with wins in seven of their past eight.

Nashville and Dallas have split the season series so far, and it’s the Preds who have won both of the last two meetings by a score of 4-3 in a shootout. Both of those games went over the 5.5 goal total and three of the four have as well, but I see an under here.

Nashville has played to the under in six of their last eight games, as they’re getting strong play from Juuse Saros between the pipes. Saros was named the NHL’s third star of last week as he posted a 3-0-0 record with a 0.67 goals-against average and .976 SV%. He’s allowed four goals in his past five starts and he has a shutout over that span.

The Stars have lost four of their past five games and 13 of their last 18 contests. They’re tied with the Predators for 28th in goals for per 60 minutes at 5v5. Offense has been hard to come by for both teams and I expect that to continue this evening. Dallas has been held to three or fewer goals in 10 of its last 11 games.

Prediction: 3-2, Nashville
Best bet: Under 5.5
Total: Under 5.5
