PrizePicks for January 20

There are plenty of different props to choose from on PrizePicks, and there’s a lot of money to be made. You can pick your choice of NFL, NBA, PGA, MMA, soccer and more. As you’ll see below, I’ll be focusing on the NHL for today’s analysis.

Speaking of “PrizePicks,” it is a creative new way to parlay picks based on expected fantasy point production.

The format is simple. You pick two, three or four players and predict whether they will go over or under their projected fantasy point total.

When parlaying the players, the larger your parlay, the better the payout:

  • Two-pick entry pays 2.5x (max entry: $400)
  • Three-pick entry pays 5x (max entry: $200)
  • Four-pick entry pays 10x (max entry: $100)

As a bonus offer, there is a “flex play” option if you choose to run a four-man parlay. This will provide some security, as you can earn 1.5x your buy-in if three of your four picks hit.

Below are my top PrizePicks for Wednesday’s slate in the NHL. I will be mixing and matching my pick combinations from the pool below, with my favorite combinations also included.

Scoring breakdown for PrizePicks contests can be found here.

Jan. 20 PrizePicks

NHL

Auston Matthews (5.1 points) — OVER

Matthews only has one goal on the season, but he has 21 shots and four points in four games. Matthews has put at least five shots on goal in three of his four games, and the Oilers have allowed a league-high 36.27 shots per 60 minutes at 5v5. They also rank in the top eight in high-danger chances and scoring chances allowed at 5v5. On the flip side, the Toronto Maple Leafs rank first in shots and scoring chances for at even strength. Consider the over on Connor McDavid’s 5.1 points prop as the matchup between the Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers has a total of 6.5.

Brayden Schenn (3.5 points) — OVER

Schenn scored his first goal of the season against the San Jose Sharks Monday and finished with five shots on goal. There were nine goals scoring in the first meeting and we could see another nine in the second game. The Sharks have the highest expected goals against at 5v5, and they’ve surrendered the second-most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes. They’ve also coughed up the most scoring chances and the seventh-most shots at 5v5. In the first meeting between these two teams, it was the Brayden Schenn, Jaden Schwartz and Jordan Kyrou line that finished with a game-high in shot attempts, shots, scoring chances, high-danger chances and goals at even strength.
