The Best NHL Props Bets
Bryan Rust Over 2.5 SOG
(-117, BetRivers)
Rust returned to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup in their latest game and picked up six shots on goal over 19:22 of ice time. Rust missed seven games due to an upper body injury, which is too bad because he was on a heater before the injury. The winger had seven goals and 11 points in 11 games before missing a couple of weeks. Rust has six shots in back-to-back games and at least three in five of his past eight games. Both the Penguins and Senators are struggling to pick up wins, but there are a couple of appealing props in this game. Shane Pinto is averaging 3.2 shots per game in 21 games this season and he’s cleared 2.5 in nine of his last 12 games. Drake Batherson is at a good price for a point, which is something he’s picked up in six of his last nine games (five goals). He also has at least three shots on goal in five of his last seven games. Michael Bunting checks in at +130 for three shots, and he has seven in two games with the Pens. He’s expected to skate on the top line with Rust and Sidney Crosby, which is great for his outlook. It’s a small sample size, but he’s averaging 19:13 in his two games with the Pens compared to 15:07 with Carolina.

Owen Tippett Over 3.5 SOG
(-105, DraftKings Sportsbook)
Tippett has had a couple of quiet games in a row, but it’s time to jump back on him with a matchup at home against the San Jose Sharks. Tippett is averaging 3.7 shots per game this season compared to 3.0 last season. The winger is averaging 3.9 shots on goal at home compared to 3.6 on the road. He’s also playing a little bit more on home ice compared to on the road. Now let’s get into the matchup as the Sharks have surrendered a league-high 71.07 shot attempts at 5v5/60 since Feb. 1, according to Natural Stat Trick. Over that time span, they rank second in both shots and scoring chances allowed, and third in high danger chances. All of that has led to a league-high 3.65 GA/60 and 3.17 xGA/60 at 5v5. There are a few appealing point props on the Flyers, especially when you consider they have the highest team implied total on the slate.

Vladimir Tarasenko Point
(-125, DraftKings Sportsbook)
We didn’t get this Thursday, but we went right back to it over the weekend and Tarasenko picked up a goal and three points. In just his second game with Florida, Tarasenko picked up three points, which is something he only did once in 57 games with Ottawa. Tarasenko is someone I want to continue to go to as long as his price remains decent. The Panthers are loaded on offense and Tarasenko looks like a good fit alongside Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart. On the road in Dallas is a tough spot, but Jake Oettinger coughed up six goals on 20 shots in San Jose and he’s allowed at least three goals in five of his last nine outings.

- Wyatt Johnston O 2.5 SOG (-130, Bet365)
- Roope Hintz Point (-120, DraftKings)
- Aleksander Barkov & Sam Reinhart Points SGP (-110, Bet365)
- Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, Joe Pavelski Points SGP (+280, Bet365)
Alex Nylander Over 2.5 SOG
(+145, DraftKings Sportsbook)
Nylander is my longshot NHL prop of the day this 10-game slate, and someone I didn’t think I’d write up once this season but here we are. Nylander has an impressive and unsustainable five goals and seven points in eight games since getting traded to Columbus. He’s averaging 15:40 over those eight games (12:32 in 106 career games), and he played 18:28 in his last game. He’s on the third line, but he took Jack Roslovic’s spot on the top power play when he was traded to New York last week. Nylander has been in the NHL since 2016-17, but his 13 games this season between the Blue Jackets and Penguins are the second most he’s ever played in a season. The former eighth overall pick from 2016 has never really gotten a shot, especially PP1 time. In his last seven games, Nylander has 34 shot attempts (26 at 5v5) and a team-high 25 shots. The winger had five shots in his last game, and he has at least three in five of his last seven. I included a small sprinkle on the power play point because the Habs are among the leaders in penalties, and they have a bottom-four penalty kill.
